Yesterday afternoon I was by Anya's side as she went to join her brother, Rogan, at the Rainbow Bridge. I told her to also seek out the other goldens...Golda who will teach her to jump off a dock and retrieve an inner tube. Toby who will swim with her and show her the fun of fishing. Rusty, who loved to run and play with Toby. And, her cousin Gunner, whom Anya loved to chase with at the cottage.
It is never an easy decision to make and you look for the signs. The turmor on her leg was huge and I know painful. She hasn't been able to put weight on the leg for a few weeks now. The night before she wouldn't get up so I could let Eden outside. Then yesterday afternoon, Anya managed to jump in the van but when I helped Eden in the van, I think Eden got too close and bumped into Anya's leg. Anya wimpered and hobbled over to me then placed her head in my chest as if to say "make it stop...make the hurt go away".
It was because of Anya I found this forum and met so many wonderful people. We attended the NN Get-togethers in Iowa. I was then able to connect to people and their newfs through the North Central Newfoundland Club and Wisconsin Newfoundland Club. I connected with Glory (Mrs Big Dogs) and through her, the Newfie Brigade was formed. Last year we participated in many newfie get-togethers, walked in parades, and helped to raise funds at a local baseball game.
While my heartaches for my Anya, I hope, in time, I will give my heart to another and continue to share this wonderful breed with others in her honor.
