I had such an amazing evening last night.
I took Oliver and Emma to an outdoor shopping complex that we go to all the time and a man stopped me to see them. As he approached, he mentioned he's had Newfies for 40 years and just lost his Newfie "LuLu" last month to cancer.
He sat down on a bench and Oliver sat next to him and the tears started streaming down his face.
He looked up at me and said his heart was breaking....he didn't know how he'd ever live without her.....LuLu was his world and he missed her so much. I did my best to console him but it was obvious that Oliver and Emma would do more than I could possibly ever say.
As he continued to cry, Emma went over and kissed the tears from his cheeks. It was so touching to see this man's broken heart helped by my Newfs....
He said he and his wife were going to be going to Chicago soon to meet a breeder but he felt so guilty. I told him not to feel guilty. He'd never replace LuLu but his heart would find a new spot to give love again and he'd create new memories.
When he walked away, as he passed people, he'd point back at Oliver and Emma and tell them, "See those Newfies? An angel brought them here tonight."
It's so hard when you meet people that have lost a pet and their emotion is still so raw. But when you watch them go through the grieving process and they can hug/pet your Newfie, it makes you feel amazing.
