I know Snuffles' kinfolk have geothermal too. Not sure how they do money wise on a cold winter night since they use electric heat if the heat pump action can not keep up, but I think summer AC costs are very reasonable to keep the house 70 or below. We've had it on for over a month. House and kennels. Our geothermal is wonderful.
We have never gone on back up heat. We have the vertical unit. It is like a closed loop but goes 70 feet into the ground. At that depth the temp is always 45-50 degrees. Unlike a horizontal closed loop that is only a few feet below the ground where it can freeze in the winter. Not sure how they do money wise on a cold winter night since they use electric heat if the heat pump action can not keep up,
I will have to ask next time I am there. Got me curious now.We have never gone on back up heat. We have the vertical unit. It is like a closed loop but goes 70 feet into the ground.
