Why today?

I know this probably belongs in Maladies, but I know more people will see it here. I am asking for your thoughts and prayers - I am scared out of my mind. Byron dropped a heavy candle on himself yesterday, and now and all night he was yelping in pain whenever he moved, only I thought that it was his paw, and whenever I touched paws he was fine. I just figured out 5 min ago that its his neck. We are on our way to the ER vets. Keep us in your thoughts please.

THank you all. The vet said most likely muscle sprain. She doesnt think that xrays were warranted, and since he already has been in Rimadyl last night to no avail, put him on Prednisone. Off course he was being a stoic, and when she examined him, did not make a peep. Luckily she heard him whimpering in the waiting room, so she knew to be very thourough and see where it actually hurts. I am so happy that its nothing. But we will f/u with our vet in a couple of days to see if he needs X-rays.
Thank you all so much

Just checking in today, and saw this. I'm sorry to hear of the sprain, but thankful the vet doesn't seem to think it too bad. Poor Byron. We will keep him in our thoughts. Hope he is feeling better very soon.

I am so thankful Byron is ok!! What a scare! Will keep Byron in thoughts and prayers for speedy healing!
edited to add that I am so sorry there are still problems. I know it is a horrific worry, but I think the solution can be found because you are all over it, plus being a medical professional. Meanwhile continuing to send prayers and positive energy your way. Try to sooth yourself and remain calm even though it is darn near impossible. Again, I am so sorry!

So glad to hear it's not obvious problem. Keep us posted. Frankly, I don't have a lot of faith in ER docs. I had one try to convince me my 75 lb Lab mix had been poisoned by swallowing a penny, when she really had Addison's disease. But, that's just me. Hope all is fine.

Nina, unfortunately I am with you. We just came back from our second visit today, where they gave him a stronger pain relief injenction. He is BARKING everytime he moves his neck the wrong way, not just whimpering. I asked for muscle relaxants which they gave us (robaxin), and he is now knocked out asleep, but I am just so sick with worry.
Sometimes, ignorance is a bliss (to a degree). I have a medical degree, and all the worse case scenarios that can happen to humans keep running through my head, and I cant help but wonder if he has a spinal cord injury, or god forbid meningitis. I did not sleep last night, and have a feeling tonight is gonna be the same, though Byron is sound asleep now, and I hope he wont wake himself up by moving. Why do I have a feeling we are going for XRAys tom to my regular vet? Gosh, I dont know how you guys do it when your dogs get really sick.
Thank you all for your concerns
