What I learned today

And yes Rowsysmitt, your Newfie will become a local superstar in no time and no one will know your name, just your Newf's name, and no one will recognize you without him/her.
So true. Sometimes I identify myself like on the phone or email as Leonard the guy with Snuffles the Newfoundland.

Not long after Snuffles moved here and started to go to PetSmart, I always wonder if I would be recognized if I went in without Snuffles. One time I was recognized by a part time clerk. The way the floor display was, she could not see I did not have Snuffles. She come flying around the corner saying Snuffles' name. When she realized Snuffles was not with me, you could see the sudden let down and disappointment on the clerk's face.

Siri will always attract attention. This summer at the Estes Park gathering of Newf Netters it could take hours to go for a walk in the downtown. They are just attention magnets.

Oh yeah. And it will never stop. Your newf will love it and you will get used to it and understand that you have an extraordinary being in your presence :)

the one thing I learned quickly with Sulley....don't take him if you are in a rush or on a time line. :) I love my boy and he loves the attention, although we don't generally go into the pet food store since he is very good at sneaking toy and treats while I am playing 120 questions.

I need one of those shirts!

We're getting such a kick out of the attention, but no one loves it more than the dog. Chewie's trainer at Petco laughs about how he has to greet "his public":) We heard a new one yesterday. You all know that usually it's "Wow, is that a bear?" But this time an adorable little two-year-old girl toddled up, cocked her head, and said "Wion?" She was happily slurped for the compliment!

They attract the attention and can stop traffic. When I call my vet to say I am picking something up - they always ask - "are you bringing Tuck. I can if you want to see him. Oh yes - bring him please" He gives them all a big smile when he walks into the vet.

Just like everyone else said, Yes. It also happens during walks, at the vet, and anywhere else people see your dog.

Ha! I remember posting something like this soon after we got Darwin. He's nearly 9 months old now... and it's worse than it used to be! People pull over on the side of the road--in busy traffic, I might add--, roll down their windows, and gush over him.

Wait until people start asking you, "How much did he cost ya? Where can I git me one of them there dawgs!?"
