Two released from North Korea

I am not a big fan of Bill Clinton, but I must say I am pretty happy with him today, for helping to get our two journalists released. I don't know how much he really had to do it with it, but the bottom line is that they are free. And that makes me VERY happy!

I am thrilled. And whatever there is dialogue, there is hope. Perhaps we can N. Korea back to talks on nuclear matters. As for the choice of Bill Clinton? Whatever it takes. Perhaps they wanted the status of a former president.

Seeing pictures of the two women, one with her little daughter, I cried a little, from joy ...

I too am glad they are free, but I am so tired of the tin-horn dictators blackmailing us. We may never know what was promised in return but you can bet there is something there. Thought the Marines in Tripoli put an end to that kind of nonsense.

It is wonderful for them though, I suspect they would not have survived the full course.

Wonderful news....I knew it was likely to come...because as Emmie says, N Korea always wants something.......The dictators keep for themselves and let their people starve. You can believe we traded something more than a shallow kirtsey. Now we will see what we have to offer Iraq for the hikers..... Hopefully not Isreal....

Not to change the subject too much, but WHY in the world would anyone want to hike anywhere in the middle east right now. Crazy!

Of the 3 Iran is holding..one is from a marvelous community up outside of Cottage Grove, Oregon..and they have a strong focus on creating amazingly fuel effecient stoves for cooking/heating/and solar powered when can. They have spent about 30 years creating and making items which will let third world countrys help their people survive..and maybe flourish..rather than just slave for dung patties for fuel and water carrying from 4 and 6 miles away from a camp. Will Iran figure out they have the wrong people? Nope..too much 'posturing' by old furious men to be done..before somone with any actual , real world brain power/education..can step in..bring them up to..oh..the 17th century..possibly.. ina n HB n Kesa

Well we do agree on Iran's growth state Ina. As you say, maybe 17th if someone pulls them hard.

And I agree, why would anyone take the chance of going anywhere in the Middle East if they didn't have to. A lot less tourist income might MIGHT slow down some of the idiocy.

Not that I hardly get into politics here, but when I heard this on the news this AM, I had to think how sad. John Bolton, Fomer U.S. Ambassador to the U.N is!

"The Obama administration is rewarding North Korea for its bad behavior by sending ex-president Bill Clinton to Pyongyang to win the release of two US journalists, the former US ambassador to the UN said Tuesday said Tuesday.

What a jerk!!

Good and Bad on this.

North Korea.

*The two 'journalists' had to get past three divisions of Chinese infantry to get near the border. They are there to slow the tide of NK refugees coming North at risk of their own lives.

*The PRC\PDRK border is well marked... you don't cross it by accident.

Iran.
*From friends working in the North of Iraq there are a LOT of backpacking tourist types in the Kurd regions. (Yeah Honey- lets vacation in a combat zone!!!!!)

*The border is NOT well marked, but very well patrolled by both Kurdish militias and Iranian border guards. Early reports indicated that the USCits crossed into Iran after being told by Iranian border guards not to. VERY PROBABLE. Also the Kurds love Americans and probably warned them not to try.

This is kinda like the show 'Locked Up Abroad' on NGeo....

I kind of like most of what John Bolton says...even when he was in office..He is very direct and deliberate...however, in this case I am sure he knows it had to be done......even if it was a 'reward' for Kim Jong Il......We had to get them out..we don't know what the bigger reward was...

This is the first US person to person meeting with the The Great Leader in years. The insight into how he looks, walks, talks, means a lot.

Correct you are Leonard. Add Fox's Dick Morris to the list, he called Clinton's trip "awful and ridiculous" adding "Maybe they go to North Korea and they live with the consequences of their decision to go there." Huh? What an asscrack!

“John Bolton is right,” declared the Weekly Standard’s Steve Hayes.

The idiocy from the right sometimes knows no bounds. There was nothing else offered but a few photos of Lil Kim with the Big Dog. I think Clinton's reward was spending the 20 hour flight with two lovely young ladies!! If it leads to other talks all the better-despite Bolton's preference to begin yet another multi-billion dollar war.

Quite honestly, does it really matter who got those 2 poor souls out of N. Korea, I'm just happy they made it back to their homes.

I agree it surely wasn't an "accidental crossing." It almost couldn't have been, but thank God they are out. Can you imagine??!! There was some good information to be had by just seeing him and interacting with him, I also agree.
