Breezy is such a small newf. She is 6 months and a little over 50 lbs. She doesnt look skinny at all. She is proportioned well. But why is she so small? all her litter mates are bigger then her. Should I worry???

You must always remember, the standard for female Newfs is 100-120 pounds at full maturity. She sounds fine to me, so don't worry! My girl was heavier than your girl at that age (75 pounds), but my girl is quite large for a female and is outside the "normal" range of the standard.

I agree with Kristin. Breezy is not abnormally small for a female. Just smaller than some. How tall is she?
As long as her weight for her frame is good I wouldn't worry.....

P.S. Posting a new picture of the lovely Breezy might help us decide.....;)

The slower they grow the better. You don't need to worry about her being 50lb at 6 months, that's normal for a lean teenager. She will put the rest of the weight on her slowly, most of it only between two to four years.

Elvis didn't stop growing until he was 3 years old, so I think 50lbs at 6 months sounds fine. Even though there is a "breed standard" you'll find newfs of every shape and size. She may end up being smaller than others, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. A newf personality is amazing regardless of weight!!

River's 93 pounds at 2 1/2 years (yay, we lost the 2 pounds and stopped gaining like the vet wanted), so she is small for a Newf. She's small, but perfect. Perfect health, great solid structure, and very athletic. I resented all the comments about how small she was at first, until I realized I was hearing only those and not all the comments that were positive. When I started paying attention, I realized I hear much more how beautiful she is than how small she is! She can work circles around Malcolm (who at almost 8 months is bigger than her!) and she has such a strong working drive. Breezy has looots of growing to do, but even if she does end up small, there are worse things that can happen. Can't wait to see a picture :)

Gracie is small, she's 24" at the shoulder and weighs about 100 lb, she's now almost 12 yrs old and has been healthy all her life, which to me is more important than a big Newf with health problems!!
Let us see a pic of her.

Gilly is just over 6 months and just about 57 lbs. She might be a petite girl, but so long as she's happy and healthy I love her!

I own a mini newf.........Annabelle is very small compared to all the other newfies we meet. But she is very athletic and active. I like the smaller newfies, the lower part of the Breed standard, she is just at the lowest limit. I have a Huge girl (Katy) too and if she keeps growing until 4 years, I think we are in trouble. I have kept her lean, but she is tall.

Glory is a small newfie too, 108 lbs but has always been very active and healthy. She's 9 1/2 years old now and doing fine. Her daughter, Brite is only 88 lbs and also very active and healthy. She is 7 1/2 years old and still participatinng in many of the working events. Bigger is not neccessarily better.

As long as she is healthy & happy don't worry, her size seems normal; Tiki is 130 lbs & 28", & alot of people who I see comment that he is small for a newf, he is healthy, happy & very agile & happy,& that is what matters.

We did draft trials with Brite at the NCA Specialty and the Canadian Specialty. She is sooo precious. Just a lovely personality - so friendly to everyone and just so cute. Everyone just loved her!

My Chase is small. At 6 years old she is barely 100 lbs and about 23 inches tall. She is a sweetie.

At 6 month and 50 lbs I think your girl is just fine. Let her grow slowly and healthy!

I have to agree with everyone else. Our female pyr was about 50 lbs at 6 months and she is a little over a year and just about 100 lbs which would be within breed standard for a newf.

Zuzu is a fairly tall girl and has orthopedic problems. Cooper is a small boy (120-125 lbs) and very solid and well proportioned. I'd take compact and healthy over tall, rangy and fragile - though I love 'em both!

I agree with Newfie Mama exactly.

We have a very petite old girl and she has NO arthritis ... it's amazing how fast she moves at what we estimate to be about 9 or 10. I have to assume it is her compactness. She's not super slender, perhaps a few pounds plumpness, at about 90#.

Given two equal newfs, I would actually chose a smaller one because I feel they probably have less joint /weight complications.
