Synopsis
The Newfoundland combines a large, powerful phsyique with a mild, docile character. This book traces the history and development of the breed, and offers a guide to training and looking after a Newfoundland. '

About the Author
Hedd and Del Richards first became interested in the Newfoundland in 1979. Since then, their Sheridel kennel has exhibited all three colours with considerable success. They have owned or bred a total of ten UK Champions including the present breed record holder, Ch. Ir. Ch. Sheridel Crawford. Both are Championship show judges of the breed, and are qualified to judge Level I Draught Tests. Their dogs also compete in Water Tests on an occasional basis. Hedd and Del have both been members of the Newfoundland Club for a number of years. Hedd is currently the Chairman, and has served on the Health and Longevity sub-committee. He has arranged many seminars and educational events to promote responsible ownership and competent judging. When they are not attending shows, Hedd and Del's favourite hobby is hiking across the Welsh Mountains, accompanied by their beloved dogs.

If you look on amazon it will give you customer reviews, etc.
The book tells you a lot about newfs plus a bit about breeds from around the world. It is approx 10 years old but is still very relevant.
Hope this helps people Lisa

Doesn't anybody here realize that a percentage of the proceeds of the sale of Life Among the Giants is going to support Newf rescue? By doing this, you're taking much needed funds away from a very worthy cause. At least I thought that everyone here thought Newf rescue as being worthy. Now I wonder.

I don't believe that participation in a book swap indicates that anyone does not feel the Newf Rescue is a worthy cause. Personally, I donate a substantial amount of money to rescue organizations each year and several people on the list have fostered / rescued / or assisted with rescue dogs. While I appreciate that you feel the author may have been "cheated" of the sales of these books, I for one, had no intention of purchasing that particular book.

Should anyone wish to remove their name from this book swap, please PM me and I will take your name off the list.

With regards to the Newfoundlands Today book, Victoria1140 has specifically requested that participants in that book swap make a donation to rescue in "repayment" for reading the book.

Please let's not make a simple book swap a political statement on whether people feel that Newf Rescue is a worthy cause. I am certain everyone participating does as much as they can for the good of the breed.

I had no idea Tina. How about everyone that reads this book sends in a donation to their local chapter of Newfoundland rescue? Or better still, someone provide the address for the rescue that the Author intended. I have one of the books right now and I'll put the address in it. All donations can be made in the name of "Life Among the Giants".
I don't think anyone here knew they were hurting Newf Rescue.

Teri,

I have no problem making a donation. For what it's worth, it was not obvious that the book supported newf rescue. I went on the web page for the book itself and I could not find anywhere on the website where it indicated that proceeds from the book were going to support rescue.

If people participating in the book swap would like to make a contribution to a local rescue in an amount they feel they can afford or appropriate, I know the author would appreciate that. And I know that there was nothing malicious about this book swap and on the face seems like a great idea. So please don't feel that I'm slamming everyone involved in the swap. That certainly wasn't my intent. Must run. I have a Newf at the door wanting to come in.
