Sydney and the jacuzzi (long)

Reading about Barry and Ellen's adopted girl, Token, brought back a flood of memories with some of the fosters as well as the adopted ones. One story in particular I don't think I've ever shared is as follows:
When rescue told us that they needed us for Sydney, we receive his picture and decided yes, we would foster this boy. He'd had four homes in one year so our heartS were already aching before we even laid eyes on him. Little did we know at the time that the picture we received was out dated and what was supposed to be a 90-100 lb male was in actuality a 37" 1 yr old Landseer that weighed in closer to 160 at the time. :bear: I've never seen so much newf pour out of one car!!
Our first objective was to figure out where to contain this rather <ahem> large one year old because he was too big to fit into even the largest crate we owned. I special ordered one but it wasn't going to arrive for three days. I decided the master bath was the perfect place. It's large, tiled and well lit by way of huge window.
I placed a kiss on his schnozzola and went to work.
Those that know me know I go home every day at lunch to spend time with the crew and let them out to potty. (thank doG) I went up to get Syd and found that he had jumped into the jaccuzi and in the process had turned on the faucets (yes, BOTH) and everything that had been sitting around the edges was floating IN the tub because he had also managed to step on the drain plug at the same time!! I got home just in time to see the water level nearly to the top and this is a tub I can sit in and the water level reaches my shoulders! Syd was sitting over to the side looking quite happy about what he had managed to ALMOST facilitate.
I got everything cleaned up and all the towels that were IN the tub were placed in the washer. I call the DH and we have a good laugh over the near disaster.
Fast forward to 5pm when he DH arrives home from work to find Syd upstairs in the master bathroom... Water cascading over the top of the jacuzzi and heading out the door straight towards the carpet! :uglyhammer: not only had Syd done it once but he had managed to do it a second time AND was far for successful at it. He was wet from the belly down so I'm sure he had a good splash. :bear:
Who can get mad at that?
Now I was in a real pickle because I still had two days to go before the ultra extra ginormous crate arrived to keep him safe. I did the only thing I could do... I took the knobs OFF the darn jacuzzi faucet!:lol:

ps. HAVE YOU SEEN SYDNEY? :LMAO:

Now that was funny, and I thought Myra was a bugger. I could see once by accident but he did it on purpose the second time! So I take it he's the guy in the middle of your avatar? *hint* maybe a picture of him so we can see the little-big devil?

Great Debra, gave me a real giggle. The mental picture is wonderful- " gee I really love it here, they even gave me my very own pool right away."

That's great! Every once in awhile Elvis does something that I think is so random, but then I realize several people on Newf Net can probably top it!

Holy Newfoundland! Hugo has spent a fair amount of his life in the bathtub, by choice, but never figured out the faucets. I think I would have had a heart attack if he had! This makes him look like a little angel compared to Sydney.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing.

This boy is so darn endearing that no matter what he did/does you just can't get mad!
He is always smiling and is so proud of himself. That jacuzzi day was one I'll never forget. For several days after that I kept inspecting the ceiling down below certain that I was going to see water spots from his adventure. There's a line about three feet long and about two inches wide that stained it. All I can say is thank goodness the DH wasn't running late that day. I shudder to think what might have been. I had this mental image of Syd's newf created waterfall cascading down the stairs.
He didn't stay in the crate for long. It became apparent to us rather quickly that he was a good boy and could be trusted in the house.
Don't get me wrong now. He still gets into mischief. He's a snarfer when it comes to anything within reach and there's not much he can't reach! He's so tall he can lap water out of the kitchen faucet with all four on the floor!!

Yes, that's my boy in the middle but that picture was over a year ago. He turned three in January so you can imagine that he was still filling out. He's still 37 at the shoulder but he now weighs in at a petite 185 as of last weekend. :bear:

And when Sydney wants you to go somewhere with him, He takes your hand in his mouth, or grabs your arm with his mouth, and ~takes~ you there!! :LMAO:

 yes, he's a big boy who thinks he's teensy. He can't manage to get out of his own way and he thinks he's a lap dog.

He also body pushes me to the pantry if he thinks there a chance I'll walk away from the treats. He "leans" you in that direction and sits in front of the pantry until he gets what he wants :bear:
Yes he's willed to you. Yes he knows this and yes I told him you will be just as compliant IF he has to come live with you

People do react to him differently. It's funny to watch and I'm always explaining what he's trying to do. He's so gentle about it. He doesn't do it to just anyone either. It depends on how comfortable he is around them
