So, my orange kitten that I adopted this past spring has been growing and growing and much to my surprise I've been informed by my friend who has several Maine Coon cats that he is quite possibly a Maine Coon cat. He has all of the trademark physical markings but also the "type" personality- very friendly, outgoing and dog-like. He drinks from the dog dishes, loves water, and fetches. He is quite large already- weighing well over 12 lbs already and the vet says Maine Coons grow until they are five. This explains his perplexing HUGE feet, tufts, rabbit like long fur and racoon like tail. And he has he trademark "M" mark on his forehead. What a surprise! Vet says he will likely grow to be about 25-30 lbs. Omg... A giant dog and a giant kitty cat!

My Merlin has maine coon in him...he's huge ... 20 or so pounds, black with tuxedo markings...and long, lynx-like tufts on the tips of his ears and huge paws. He loves to fetch wadded up pieces of paper, and drinks from the dogs dish. He loves the dog's food... they are certainly a different breed of cat!

Congratulations! I have been hearing about the unique Maine Coon for years on a prep forum. They are the cat of choice for barns and frozen climates: awesome mousers. Their owners rave about these cats. Did research and decided years ago we would get 2 littermates.

Lots of research, went to cat shows, found good breeder, waited YEARS for a red kitten, finally got our 2 male littermates this October. Super fun kittens! Yes very dog-like, growing insanely fast, crazily playful, obsessed with water, so in love with Orka our Newf pup it's hilarious -- they follow him around and imitate him, dote on him, flop all over him.

These kitties are extremely intelligent, want to be with you at all times, insatiably curious, get into every inch of house, thunder race, leap everywhere, challenge every surface horizontal and vertical, and demand inclusion in every activity.

Maine Coons are the Newfs of the cat world, and the largest domestic cat. Big, furry, outrageous plumes of tails, and amazing personalities. And they LOVE to swim !!!

They are soooo cute!!! What a perfect pair! How old are they? Stanley is just over a year. He was 6 months old when I adopted him in March. He just keeps getting bigger. He is very curious too. Playful. Into everything! He jumps in the shower when I'm in there. He sees the dogs drink from the toilet- so he does too. I've even caught him chewing on the dogs' bones. He is quite the character. He waits by the door for me when I get home sitting right next to the dogs. I really think he believes he's a dog. :D

Heeheeheheh, Jess, you have yourself at least a partial Maine Coon! They take 4 full years to mature. The world's longest cat is a Coonie, just set a new record.

In 2 days our scoundrels will be 5 months old. Ours jump in the shower too! When we're there and not. Plus Orka jumps in. Turn on the water and its a snorting zoo in there. Yes they all like to get wet, roll in the water, splash each other and create havoc. We have an ADA roll-in shower with a pool noodle curb and they demolish the curb every few minutes.

All 3 furkids obsessed with the toilet. I go to the bathroom, instant crowd. Giant litterbox in the bathtub; when I pee, the kittens run to the box and pee. Orka supervises. They all wait expectantly when I flush the toilet then compete to get INTO the toilet. Insane. Ever seen a kitten slide down a Newf head into a toilet bowl? Barbossa runs from the table down Orka's back onto his head then slides down his nose into the toilet.

The kittens like to bat Orka's bully sticks all over the house. They want anything he wants. Competitive over toys and attention. Today Orka was demolishing a cardboard box with the kittens inside for the ride.

Your cat Stanley is gorgeous! There is a Maine Coon forum, same software as Newf Net. Coonies are clowns and there's lots of stories. Welcome to the cwazy kitty club Jess!

Remember the early 1980s movie "Trading Places" where there was a bet breeding versus environment. I think environment is winning here. beautiful cat in the later pictures posted.

Oh Jess! That's awesome. I've got a Manx that has a lot of dog-like characteristics. He drives me utterly insane, and I adore him. Personality out the whazoo. I'm sure your Stanley will keep surprising you...

Jess, he is VERY handsome. He has to have a personality to live with your crew! I'm betting he makes you laugh every day.

Stanley and our O'Malley could easily pass as brothers. Here are a few pics I took of O'Malley today. He is now 3 years old and 17 pounds, and has gotten taller than our other 'Coon type, Tobias. Don't know if the pic is clear enough to see, but he has long tufts sticking out from between his toes. I have to clip the fur between his pads, just like I do for the newfs!
