Surgery went great. I just got off the phone with the vet and he said the repair went very well and the mobility is very good. He still wants to keep him overnight but we can get him at 10 tomorrow. Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm off to the hotel to grab some serious sleep.

Oh Cissy, you did more to prepare me for this than you could possibly know. You ARE my cruciate angel (and maybe I'll give a little credit to Owen too). I loved Dr. Link. He was a lot nicer than I expected.

On a bad note....yesterday, under the not-so-watchful eyes of my husband, Stoli was able to perform surgery on himself and remove 5 of his stitches. So Hubby had to take him to our regular vet to have staples put in. He now has 12 really pretty blue stitches and 13 very shiny staples.

Today he seems to be much more out of it than yesterday. The incision looks great though but he's got a lot of bruising. Who knew newfie bruises were red? But he's loopy from the drugs (Tramadol) and just really out of it. That's good though because he's not getting restless....yet.

But all is well. Thanks for the good thoughts.

Great news! Believe you me I certainly was not prepared for red bruising either! But I am pretty learned now, the HARD way. I am so glad things are well. Sorry to hear about the stitches. Yes, those blue stitches are very pretty. Dr. Link is Owen's hero, made him a happy boy again.

Thanks for the update Leslie. I'm sure Stoli will be back to his old self in no time.

He's doing fine. I really can not wait until we get these dang stitches and staples out. They are driving him nuts, which in turn drives me nuts. He has figure out how to get around the blow-up, the bite-not and the sattelite collars. We're going for a follow-up next Thursday in Madison but I'm calling today (thanks for reminding me) to see if our local vet can pull them out. They were supposed to come out today anyway.

He won't put weight on it too much but will touch it down. He gets to start 5-minute walks today. It's progress I guess. Slow and steady, right?

Thanks again for asking.

Aww Good news for the big guy! Yes it does take awhile for that foot to go down all the way. With Owen each leg was different. Yes, I could have removed the sutures myself, but opted to go and have a re check because of the extra issues going on with him. Very SMALL STEPS, very limited excercise, until you see more weight bearing. They all are different.

Cissy, we're going to go to the appointment but just want the stitches out. Dr. Link was VERY adamant that the knee not be manipulated at ALL by the vet during stitch removal. No turning, no nothing. So we're going to hang the weekend but he really won't leave it alone. I don't believe we have a choice unless duct taping his entire head is a choice...
