Stem Cells and Murphy

So I'm sure some of you have read about Murphy's current condition in our Murphy Prognosis thread. We sent the new x-rays to the original surgeon and she called my husband "with all new kinds of ideas". She really wants us to drive Murphy to San Diego for some stem cell therapy and to "discuss options" tomorrow. My husband said he is willing to take the day off and discuss her ideas. Most importantly he wants her to admit that she has been lying about the placement of that TTA device and to admit there is missing bone as a result of her surgeries. What do you guys think about allowing her to inject him with his already stored stem cells? Personally I don't want her to touch him, but my husband said he wants to listen to all options. He said he isn't willing to pay her a dime for any more services, but doesn't think the stem cells can hurt at this point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

If she is willing to do this to correct her mistake then I'd be all for it. I do think she should do this at no or next to nothing in cost to you.

I think it's worth it to Murphy to give all possible options a try to get your boy healthy and happy. I agree you shouldn't pay a dime but despite your horrible experience she does seem to be a good surgeon who has performed some very cutting edge procedures. If it cant' harm Murphy and can only help him I don't see how you could pass that chance up. Good luck to your boy and do let us know how he does with whatever options you choose.

Working in a medical area where we do procedures on people, I can tell you that even though we all try our best 100%. Sometimes things do not go as well as expected and we need to reassess and do something else to improve things. Maybe she is aware of this and is trying to correct whatever it is...........As hard as anyone in the Medical profession tries to be perfect there is always some chance that something can have a different outcome. the only time I would condemn this is, when the people involved try to pretend everything is perfect and it did not happen.............Your Surgeon seems to try and rectify the problem
Prayers and :hugs: to Murphy:heart:

I completely agree. My husband is a medical malpractice attorney (he represents the hospitals) and many cases are resolved with an apology, admittance of liability and minimal monetary settlement. He really just wants her to look him in the eye, admit she messed up, admit she lied about messing up and offer us a non-surgical alternative similar to the stem cells and some rehab services. Neither one of us trust her to actually perform any more surgeries on him. Putting him to sleep at such a young age and with such a sweet temperment does not seem like an option to us yet.

Tina,

I have no advice but only can offer my prayers for your family and Murphy. Thank you so much for doing everything you can for him so he has a chance at a full and long life. I'm sure he is so happy just to be with you all. He knows you love him and are helping him. Keep up the fight!

You may want to ask more about the procedure - we have talked to a friend about a similar procedure at length. It's my understanding that first they take fat cells from your dog, then send them off to harvest stem sells from them and then re-inject them.
I thought that to get the fat cells - the dog would be asleep - but I could be wrong...
Still a VERY cool procedure and my friend said there is a lot of success with it. Just wanted to mention since it may be a more in depth procedure than you were thinking. (also possible my facts are off )....

Your facts are right on target. Murphy already had his stem cells harvested in August and had them injected during his second TTA surgery to help with recovery. So we now have 68 Million cells stored. It is just a matter of injections at this point. My husband just left with Murphy so I'm hoping for some good news in a few hours. I was trying to find out if the stem cells could stimulate bone growth. So far I haven't found anything. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts they keep me grounded and help reaffirm our decision that we should keep trying at this point.

Tina,
I'm sure if there is something that can be done for Murphy, you'll find it. Keep trying and keep the faith. Hugs to Murphy.

Hi Tina-
I am glad that the DH is taking Murphy to the OS. At this point you have nothing to loose. It would be very big of the OS to admit that she made a mistake. I would be thrilled if our OS admitted she did something wrong. My fingers are crossed that you get some positive news today!

they say it can work wonders in helping cell regeneration, I know the only areas I have heard of it being used in are anti aging and some cancer trials but anything can help so go for it and I hope you get good news
