Special password needed?

I contacted my local Newf branch asking for an application to start fostering Newfs. They were supposed to email me another form to fill out and I haven't heard back from them. It has been over a week. Is this unusual?

My best answer is 'sometimes'. I know thats probably not what you wanted to hear but from week to week, rescue never knows what is going to occur. We never know when that next 'urgent' situation is going to happen to put everything else on the back burner. We also have our own personal lives to deal with, and most have full time jobs on top of everything else. So, with that being said, I would again contact them, and gently nudge them that your willing to help and would like the application so you can get in line to be of assistance. I know SCNR would welcome more local fosters at the moment.

Thank You for stepping forward for your local organization.

They had the original volunteer application online (that I had to print out, scan and email) but not the fostering application. I emailed them again but have not heard anything. I guess they don't have a need for foster parents.

If you are referring to the Regional Club's Rescue, I do believe you DO NEED a special password. I'm not going to win any friends with them by saying this but, they are not very accepting of offers for help. I've offered to groom, mentor, drive dogs to vets, make home visits, make phone calls, etc. I can't foster because of HOA regulations for 2 dogs maximum and fencing restrictions.

I worked with all breed rescue for over 30 years, coordinated the rescue and placement of over 300 Sato dogs from Puerto Rico, did horse rescue, fostered, mentored and drove the rescue trailer to countless barns so my skill set is pretty broad. I'm mentoring 2 local owners whose dogs have health issues. But I only have ONE Newf (had 5 growing up eons ago.) All offers have been politely ignored. I'm guessing I'm not "Newfy" enough for them.

So my efforts go to rescues outside of New England. There are two groups in the CT/LI area that you might approach. Chris Pulver and Cathy Derench both have broken away from the Regional Club's rescue, you might try them.

Thank you Tricia.

I'm probably not Newfie enough for them. I think this is the perfect time to try and foster. Brody is less of a handful and my son is old enough to really lend a hand. I think it would be good for us to give back to the breed that has driven us crazy and made us better people.

Hey Heidi,

I know that for Bear Mountain we are a small group and only a few of us handle the paperwork. I know we have not been in contact wth any of our fosters for a while because we have had no dogs. But when we do it's such a relief to have foster homes set up. I think Keri or Kim are on NN and I know they work with NE rescue. I would try contacting them again.

Where along the sound are you? I work in Greenwich. I think it's great to have a network for all the different rescues to help each other out. :)

Oh and BTW I'm thrilled there are no Newfs in need of fostering.

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a Great Dane but the club I looked at doesn't rescue. Is that odd?

I have someone that does Dane Rescue by me I can put you in touch with if you're interested.

And, I used to work in White Plains.. Small world. I work right by the Westchester County Airport.
