Somethinsg is wrong with Scout

Scout is showing signs that something is not right with him. He will not jump up on our bed, he just goes from side to side wanting to come up but can't. He let out a yelp when he went into a down position last night and he is hesitant to go down the steps to go outside.Unfortunately each door in our home has 3 steps. It seems that going up is worse than gong down. I have rubbed him all over to see if there is a certain spot that hurts, but there is nothing. His tail is up and his appetite is good. This morning he din't want to come up the 3 steps back into the house, bud sort of revved himself up and did it without any sound. He also is lying under the table and again no sound of pain. The vet opens in a little while, but I thought someone might have experienced these symptoms, and would be awake to tell me about them. Thanks.

I hope Scout is okay. Newfs can cerrtainly have all sorts of aches and pains like we do. It doesnt always have to be anything serious.
thinking of you both,

Does sound like it could be neck or back. Hope the vet can give you some answers and some relief for Scout.

Haven't had that experience yet (fingers crossed). Big hugs and smoochies to Scout to feel better soon.

Oh Megan....I hope it is nothing serious
Kinda sounds like he might have hurt a leg or pinched a nerve like Charlie mentioned.

Cruciate tear was my thought too. The only time Charlie wouldn't jump up on the bed is when one of his cruciates was bad. You also may have a dog like my Max; even the vet has trouble telling when he is in pain! We have to watch for subtle muscle tightening/tension when being examined. He has never cried out in pain.

:hugs: to Scout

I can give some hope........Annabelle had a period where she cried out and would not do any up. The vet Suggested going to a chiro, because he could not find anything wrong in the usual places. She had something wrong with her Facet joints just above her Sacro iliac joints. he did some stretches, where she yelped and gave us some stretch exercises to do. She was back to her old self in a week.
I am just hoping it is something simple and not one of the dreaded ones

Thanks for the concerns. The vet couldn't seem to locate the exact problem either. He said Scout could have pulled something if he was twisting his body to scratch (he has been itchy lately) but because he was moving his head and neck fine and got up and down without yelping for him he didn't think it was anything serious YET. He gave us Rimadyl to see if that will improve things and strict instructions to keep Scout resting to not aggravate whatever is causing the issue. Ha! He's too happy to keep still! So far Scout seems to be doing well with this as he now goes outside without trouble. He is still hesitant to jump up although he wants to. We are not allowing him to do this anyway. He is like a child that wants to continue to say Please, please please because he goes from one side of the be to the other to see if he can jump like it is going to make a difference! That part is tiring because he doesn't understand why he can't! Let's hope that rest and Rimadyl will continue to make him feel better!

I hope Scout is feeling better. This sounds a lot like when Kimber would have an episode with her neck. It would usually go away in about 3-4 days with rest and NSAIDs.

Thanks for the update and we have our paws crossed that it's something simple and that he's back to his young self in no time!
