i am so worried about saska. he was fine this morning , his usual self , needed his first dip at 7am , not unusual as its over 30 at night at the moment, his second dip around 9.30 , then it happened , he came out of the pool walked round the house and started to limp on his back left leg , badley, he does`nt swim so no injury there , he did`nt run, just started to limp. i rang the vet and asked him to call by later this evening. then at 4pm he went off his back legs , we had to carry him to his bed , he was acting really scared tail between his legs couldnt move. rang the vet to say we were bringing him in NOW , we got him there , he was still limping on one back leg , but he seemed his usual self. Alfonso examined him , gave him an exray not a thing wrong with his joints??? so he took blood samples . the results will be back thursday , he thinks he has a trapped nerve. i of course being a paranoid mum !! said no he has had a stroke , or worse!!!!, alfonso said , maybe its diabetis , or mild leishmanosis , he has given him some medication to help with any pain, he also said maybe epilepsy , so now i wait, till thursday , at the moment my little fat pants is beside me asleep , snoring his head off, sorry for going on so much, but i am just so wooried bout my baby, thanks for letting me share,

Jacque, I'm sorry to hear about Saska, but glad he's doing better now.

Is there any chance he's been around some sort of insecticide? Do you have airplanes that spray there, or trucks that spray for insects? Or have you recently sprayed your lawn/yard for weeds or bugs?

That happened to four of our Goldens at one time - years ago. An airplane had sprayed chemicals to kill insects in a neighboring area (not over us), but the wind carried it to our property and all four dogs did what Saska did. Some got over it within about 6 hrs (the youngest got better the fastest)....the oldest was like that for 12 hrs - until the insecticide wore off.

Insecticides are nerve paralyzing agents. And that's what happened.

Another thought....is there Lyme disease in Spain? Or any illnesses that are carried by ticks?

Unfortunately there are many possibilities, however, I hope it's just a pulled muscle in his back which will resolve itself quickly.

Good thoughts going out to Saska and to you!

Please let us know how he's doing.

:crazy:thankyou all so much for your kind words , you have been a great help . saska had a good night , the medication seems to make him drowsy, i had a lousy night i was so worried i was up most of the night checking on him:crazy: today he is still limping , but is happy and is eating normaly, i have kept him very quiet , which isnt hard as he is a lazy newf !the vet took 3 lots of blood so that he could do a wide range of tests. yes we do have lymes here ,the hubby went to the town hall to ask if there had been any spraying done, they say no not till sept for the poisionous catapillers, we only spray our trees and plants with home made organic , and its two years since the dogs had a tick on them , as we spray the land every year with a solution for dogs and cats to rid them and the area of tick and fleas, i only use it on the land and front line the dogs , you dilute it and use it as a last rinse on the dogs , but it makes the coat very dull and stiff . i am keeping a watch on the other two , but they are fine . i am waiting for the blood results now. thankyou all so very much ,newfy hugs and drooly kisses from saska,

Scary thing to happen, the only thing i can tell you is that a stroke is one sided. So it would affect the front and rear leg on the same side. i unhappily do have a lot of experience with dog strokes.
The chemical thing is a real possible, but so is the "pinched" nerve. And it can be very debilitating short term. Hope Saske is feeling better, take care both of you.
