My baby piglet won Winners Dog and Best of Winners at the HCNC regional specialty this past weekend. Just getting his coat back from a major shed, he showed up in his underwear for the most part, but really owned that ring and as my very first show dog I couldn't be prouder. Going up against professional handlers in the breed ring, it was such an honor to picked as Best of Winners while I was handling him. But more than how he looked inside the ring, I am most proud of his behavior OUTSIDE of the ring. A true Newfoundland temperament in every text book sense of the word. He was such a hit with children and adults alike, and we shared a grooming space with 2 other intact males without any issues at all. He brought such joy to strangers coming to say hello to meet him and was a true ambassador to the breed for all of us. He just melts my heart. I have never met a sweeter Newf (I had to cover Bojie's ears for that comment). In the quest to breed "the perfect Newf" structurally, I have seen such difference in temperament in Newfs especially as I am exposed to more in shows and events. It's caused a great deal of worry for me. I am so proud to own 2 that still maintain that hallmark trait of the breed. Below a photo of him in the ring, and another a friend shot of him (didn't even know she was there) of him serving as a calm port in the midst of absolute ringside chaos to a little girl who just adored him. By the end of the week, he had his own fan club of strangers waiting for him to exit the ring so that they could curl up on the floor with him as he'd roll over for belly rubs.
and just to be fair here's Bojie participating in "Meet the Breed" at the Denver dog show...such a shame he didn't get a lot of attention
