Seizure.......??

Today my ex was over talking with our son, and Ben of course was lying between them on the floor. I went off to vacuum, so I didn't hear what was going on until they both started yelling for me - in panicked tones - very loudly. "Ben is having a seizure!" they were yelling. They were serious.

So of course my heart slams shut in my chest and I run into the other room where Ben is lying on the floor, his rear leg still slowly kicking. I asked "What happened? He looks ok now. What was he doing?"

My ex said "His head was slamming on the floor and then his back legs started moving and then he tried to stand up with his front legs and he couldn't." As I watched, Ben slowly raised his head from the floor and fell backwards onto my ex's lap ... and started that fake-snoring he does when he's being petted.

I asked "Was he like, hitting his chin really quickly on the floor? Over and over again?" Yes! "And then he started thumping with his rear leg?" Yes!

I said, "That's how he scratches his chin! It feels so good he starts thumping his rear legs!"

"Really?" Just then Ben reached up with his front paw and tried to swipe at my ex.

Really. (And because I'm older, my heart continued to race for about ten minutes. Dumb dog!)

Edited to add: since then, we went on a walk and he went for a swim and came out all covered over frozen. He is snoozing now....

My daughter came home tonight and I started to tell her how her dad and brother said Ben was having a seizure because he was hitting his chin rapidly on the floor, and she said "Aw....he was scratchin' his chin!" before I finished the story. My son says, "Yeah NOW I know that!" So, she too, knew, and sat down to hug him and of course he began snoring with his eyes open.....

It's funny how in 30 seconds your whole world perspective can change though. Whew.
