questions on spay

Our vet is offering laser scalpel instead of the traditional knife for the spay. It supposedly reduces the swelling and leads to faster healing, quicker recovery. Does anyone have experience with this??

Cimorene goes in on Tuesday for her spay. She is 2 1/2 yrs. She's had cycle issues since her first at, if I remember correctly, 7 months. She basically goes into heat every 6-8 weeks.

We are not tacking her stomach since our breeder has never had bloat/torsion issues with her newfs and didn't recommend it for us.

One of my friends had the laser method and the dog healed very quickly. They were pleased with the results.

Our girl Ursa had the laser surgery. She acted as if she never had surgery when she left the vet the next day and was back to her old self within a day. Her incision was very small and it healed very nicely without any scarrring.

SSShhhh, Don't tell Zeke but he had laser neuter and I would say he still doesn't know anything happened! I was amazed that he was himself the next day...it was a bit more expensive but my opinion was worth it!

yeah, you can't see a scar on either animal at my house. I think it's only an extra $60 for it to be done (at my vet)...all things considered, we weren't exactly cutting corners or looking to save money, so it was really irrelevant to me..if I could have taken the cut for him, I would have....I am a freak when my boy has to go through things like that.

Billie had a c-section with a laser cut last spring..I was present for it and was thrilled that there was no loss of blood and her healing/recovery time was the fastest I've ever seen.

Thanks guys! I think we will go with the laser. Sounds wonderful for our overly active and rambunctious girl.

Taking her in tomorrow morning.

That's all the Vets in my area do anymore...they use to charge an extra $50.00, now they won't do it any other way. The pain is much less and healing is much faster.

Good luck tomorrow! (and even though you're already sold on it, I'll add to the chorus of people saying that laser surgery is great; it's great!)

Cimorene's spay went fine and she is healing well. Other than the surprise that a different doctor than we expected performed the surgery...in fact it was one that I don't like. Oh well. She said that she didn't use the laser since Cimorene was a bit of a handful going out (?) and something about it not healing as quickly. Didn't make sense to me, but I didn't get into anything with her since our personalities somewhat clash. Just was happy to go and pick her up. She was ready to romp, run and play as soon as we got home, so when she's not right at our feet, she's in her crate and out in the back yard, she is on leash.

Hi, I think I'm way too late but I had our Bailey girl laser spayed and she healed up super fast. She was almost a year when she had the procedure and we figured that it was important to have the laser since she was already a larger dog.

We were very happy wtih her recovery and we are hoping to have Buford laser neutered in a few months.

Hope the surgery went super well!!!
