Post-operative Coat Changes

LuLu is 8 weeks post CCL repair and doing great. Her coat is now coming in nicely but I've noticed some changes...she has LOTS of new white spots where she was solid black before. I never saw her as a baby since she's a rescue but in the almost two years I've had her, I never saw white hairs in her 'pantaloons' or the bottom of her feet.

You can see it in this photo of her getting her 2nd laser treatment. Has anyone ever noticed coat color changes post-operatively?

When my Hannah had her spay surgery her chin and little bit of the end of her muzzle turned grey....and remains so today, almost four years later.

Tessa had little white its appear after her spay.....Some people after major surgery go grey or their hair changes from curly to wavy , straight or whatever. Doesn't happen to every human/dog. but does to some.......

Thule's coat was awful for the longest time after - due to the anesthetic I'm told... the best coat was the stuff that grew in - finally - over the shaved area... her coat was very dry and brittle and she's prematurely greying around the muzzle.

Roger's coat was horrible after his surgeries! It took a while but now it's back to it's soft, fluffy way.

I'm glad you posted this Tricia, Bojie has two spots of gray hair on his back since his surgery this summer. It scared the heck out of me. His breeder suggested lowering the protein in his food a bit to see if that helps. But I always thought in some way it was because of surgery. This makes me feel so much better!

Dixie has had both knees replaced and her fur is thicker and shorter on her thighs, Daisy got a grey chin after her TPLO and blood loss/transfusion during surgery, and Loki has never grown any fur over her belly where she was spayed...so I guess surgery is more stressful on the Newf than on us silly humans!!!!
