Pee's on his bed.... Again

We purchased Roo a nice padded bed for him to lay on when we first got him 2 months ago and as soon as he layed on it he start scatting and pawing it and then pee on it. We washed good and he repeated peeing on it several more times. We removed the bed and a month later (today) reintroduce the bed in the kitchen next to where he eats. Do sooner did I look way and he's peeing on it again and as I said NO he squat down to hide it and gets pee all over his belly. So he knows he's done somthing wrong.
Roo does not pee or poop in the house and has not in many many weeks. He even will come to the side of the bed in the morning and nudge me if he needs to go out early.
So why do you think he scratches and paws the bed and pees in it? If i put a blanket out for him he'll lay on it and not pee, something about that bed makes him think it's ok to pee in the house... Odd, thoughts.

I'd be getting rid of that bed. Something about it makes him think that's the thing to do. So...just get rid of it.

When Ayasha first came home we had a bed for her. It was her most favourite place to pee!! Eventually we just took it away - she didn't get another bed until she was over chewing and peeing - LOL She now fully appreciates and loves her bed, but as a puppy it was way more of a hassle than anything else. :)

IMO it still smells like pee. Get rid of it, try again another time with a different kind of bed. I had to throw away one dog bed insert (LLBean) and one braided rug as Zuzu could not be trusted not to pee on either one.

Now we buy plastic zip-on twin size mattress protectors and put the Bean beds into those, then into the covers. The covers themselves wash up just fine in a sanitary cycle in the washer, but the padding never got the smell out to Zuzu's satisfaction.

Just get rid of it and try one later on. Elvis destroyed so many beds (by ripping them, not peeing) that eventually Orvis just gave us our money back. We went through three of their "100% chew proof" beds before they admitted that "chew proof" didn't mean "newf proof"!

What a GREAT idea!!!

I agree I just gave him a bath and throw out the bed... This was a small inexpensive bed so I'll wait awhile and try again later. I just don't want to buy a big boy bed $$$$ and have the same problem.

All good advice, Thanks.

At 18 months, my Newf still doesn't have a bed. Each time he was offered one, he would take it in his mouth, shake it furiously and drag it around the house. It certainly was entertaining, but there was no way he was getting any rest with that thing around. I think he would still prefer tile, though this winter I will try the bed again, if only for entertainment :)

at 4 years old our newf doesn't have a bed, no matter what we bought he just always slept on the tiles. when we adopted Tara recently and bought her a nice pink bed half the size he needs he took to claiming that as his i guess in an attempt to show her it was his house his rules. so funny to see the big giant newf on a small pink bed!!

on the pee thing Tara keeps peeing on a runner we have down as charlie is nervous on tiles. no rug = no pee but charlie needs them. so we're in a dilemma too

Traction boots! My Mila and a few others on here use them. They're a godsend! http://www.ultrapaws.com/Ultra-Paws-Durable-Dog-Boots/productinfo/303D/

Breeders frequently use towels or blankets for their pups and sometimes when a pup goes to their new home, they will continue to pee on fabric. It may have been something about the fabric or the way it smelled. Good thing you got rid of it. She may be more comfortable without it anyway.

Yep, that's us. Obie at 3 sleeps on either a stone hearth/hardwoods or the tile. The only bed he ever showed any interest in belonged to the dearly departed Corgi. It was a small basket frame that took a regular bed pillow. As an obnoxious adolescent, he squeezed himself onto it, broke the frame and claimed it as his own. He still sleeps in that spot, without the long-since-discareded bed :)

Poor confused Roo

It's the bed, not him, write it off as an unfortunate loss, and praise the holy crap out of him when he does do his business outside every time. Samson is 21 months old and we still say "Good Boy" and pet him every time he does ANYthing that makes us happy (and God knows that using the yard, vice inside our home, for his bathroom makes us ecstatic!) Your comfort-intentions were honorable, but it isn't working.

Ours only have Kuranda beds and they LOVE them...except for Mira who has her own fluffy bed in the computer room. It's safe there. I have one girl, Molly, who is 8 yrs old and will STILL pee on a stuffed bed. Needless to say, she doesn't have one, nor is there one at her disposal.

Here's the link for Kuranda beds. They have some that look like furniture, but if you're considering it, get the kind that have aluminum legs and frame for a Newf. We have many that are PVC which we got for the Goldens, pre-Newf. They're still being used every day, by Newfs and Goldens. In fact, we've had some for around 12 yrs, when Kuranda was still a very small company.

You can get replacement parts for them but we never needed anything for about 8 years. And then we needed new legs for the old PVC that cracked under the weight of the Newfs. LOL

They can be taken outside then brought in. They're easy to wash outside with a hose. They dry quickly. They're worth every dime.

I'd recommend getting at least the 44x27 size for a full grown Newf (which yours will be in no time). They recommend the 50x35 due to weight but I have 150 lb male Newfs who are fine on the 44" one. Heck, they even lay on the small ones we got for our Golden girls...the 35x23 size (but I would NOT recommend this one for a Newf at all).

For fabric I HIGHLY recommend the Cordura. The vinyl is too hot and they're not crazy about it. They love the vinyl weave but it's not really all that sturdy. We had that fabric for about a year on one bed...until it started ripping from the weight of the Newf. We had to order new fabric to replace it. (Which they do carry...along with every other part of the bed). Ballistic Nylon is fine too, but of them all I prefer the Cordura. I just run over the bed with a slicker brush (10 seconds) to remove hair.

This is why I held off buying a bed for my boy. I was tempted too since I think they look so cute and comfy but I figured he'd probably just pee on it. For now, he has a play pen with some vet bed :p

Thor would have an accident on his bed that was in the living room as we were house training, but that was never a major issue. I bet it still smells like pee to him. To be honest....He doesn't have to have a bed. Thor liked a towel in his kennel more than anything, but now he has nothing. We bought a nice big bed because my husband just had to get him one and the cat uses it more than the dog. lol
