Peeing the bed. OUR bed!!

Yes, this is gross. So, Moosh was hanging out with me and NN Molly upstairs this morning as I was getting ready for work. I went into the hallway for 2 seconds and when I returned to my bedroom, Moosh had jumped up on the bed and peed.

I don't understand!

Molly is no longer allowed on our bed because she has done that in the past.

Is this a submissive thing/young dog thing (Moosh is 9 months)/acting up thing?

Someone, anyone, experience with this??

I had a cat that did that, in my sleeping bag, when I was a kid, and then a Samoyed who did it on my bed in a new place, and then a Coon kitten did it on a bed after a guest slept in it. Heard they do it for territorial or pissy pissed off issues. ???

Did you spend the long holiday weekend at home with her and this is the first day back to work? Maybe she is mad that you aren't staying home?

There's no reason she should be upset at me which is why I don't understand it. I spent the weekend hiking with her and Molly and earlier this morning, we spent half an hour playing with the ball.

She doesn't want you to go back to work! She likes the holiday hiking routine better :)
Haha, i'm sure she loves the hikes!! But she also adores daycare. Maybe she is upset I'm getting ready for work...

Are you certain without a shadow of a doubt that she hasn't also done it elsewhere in the house?
She has definitely had accidents in the house. (still very much a puppy) But I don't understand why she'd get on the bed - which is a challenge for her in the first place - and do it there. She'd also been out about 10 minute before. Her accidents usually happen when I've waited too long to walk her.

If she's had accidents elsewhere and isn't completely housebroken, I think you have to view this from her perspective. To you, it's your bed. To her, it's just another surface. It's no different to her than a floor, etc.

Maybe she is testing her boundaries? It is my understanding that the top dog in a pack gets the best place to sleep...she may be marking the bed as hers in an attempt to move up the ranks. Just a thought.

I'm just curious...is she asking to go out more often than normal? Have you checked her private area at all?

Not more than normal. She's always had to go quite frequently (every hour or so) and hasn't learned to hold it yet, unfortunately. That's probably because she has easy access to the back door, so anytime she needs to go, she just walks to the door and I let her out.

I have not. Is frequent urination some that can happen if she's going into heat. She isn't spayed yet.

My thoughts are the begining of a possible UTI....but she could possibly going into an early heat....maybe check to see if she's swollen. Pay attention to see if she is producing any pee when she squats, just some thoughts for you and things I would do and watch. When she went on the bed was it alot of pee?

It was a fair sized puddle. Definitely not a trickle.

And I would think by 9 months, she should be holding it by now....something seems not right with that.
She can hold it when she's crated for 6 hours (haven't tried longer) anytime of the day. It's just when she's out and about.

Whoa! Every hour!?

Whoa!
Ohhh I know:( Roughly an hour. But I wonder if it's because the door is right there and she has gotten used to walking to it and being let out everytime she has the urge. I've tried not letting her go outside all the time but, if she really needs to do it (and I can never tell how urgent it is) she'll just go on the floor.

Suggestions for breaking her out of this? Maybe it's the housebreaking that's the problem, not the fact that she peed the bed (although I suspect she may have climbed up there for that purpose)

Has she been checked for a UTI? I'd take urine in and let them have a look. And it could also be that she's getting ready to go into season and is "irritated".

Molly did that kind of thing for a full year. We took up rugs/carpet and then she would get up on a sofa or chair. She preferred fluffy/soft things to pee on. Fortunately the furniture is leather and since I caught it right away, I cleaned/dried it then put the cushions IN trash bags then covered with a blanket. It stopped at 12 mos. Have NO idea what it was all about to this day and she's 7 now.

I'd say your first step is to go to the vet to rule out anything on that end.

Then, if all comes out normal....then I'd say it's time to start potty training over again (just as if she was a 10 week old puppy that you just brought into your home). Unfortunately, I'd suggest going out with her each time and keeping her on a leash so that you can monitor exactly what she is (or is not) doing. Also, keeping her in a confined area if you are not consistantly monitoring her. I know, it sounds like a pain...but it shouldn't take long if you stay consistant with her.
