Orijen Freeze Dried

Sounds interesting..but can I afford it?? :) I tried to do a switch to Orijen 6 fish about when they had a USA supply problem. I have to drive 60 miles to get it too. I see there is a store in the mall in Springfield, IL that carry it now per the list on the site. I would have better luck getting it there, and I have a friend that comes this way now and then. Sounds perfect for her, since she is so paticular what her dogs eat. She even cooks free range beef hearts and liver for training treats.

I'll have to mention this to my local pet store owner. He started carrying Orijen in part because I asked for it. I'd like to try this out.

Looks good but unfortunately Orijen is ridiculously expensive for us approx $90-150 a bag dependant on variety. Shame because I did love it but my dog food supplier does a similiar type of food which only costs us $65 a bag and thats for the top of the range which is similiar to 6 fish..

If anyone in the uk needs any info on grain free foods I know of quite a few suppliers, not as good as the orijen but definetly acceptable

We get ours online. No need to drive! It comes to the door automatically with free shipping! We would have to drive about an hour round trip to get it here.

We use www.chewy.com. They aren't the cheapest on some other things, but the free shipping on my regular order of dog food + cat litter makes up for it.

How much would you feed of something like this? The recommendations (which I know aren't usually that accurate) say to feed a 33lb dog 6.5 medallions a day, then for every 11lbs add 1.5 medallions. So for a dog of 120lbs the recommendation would be about 18.5 medallions per day. That sounds like a lot (without knowing how big they are).

Maggie currently gets 4 cups a day of the Orijen Regional Red.

Maybe this food would be good for traveling and stuff though. I'll have to get a sample and try it out. The treats sound nice.

I sell Orijen/Acan and love the product, use it for all of our rescues with great results. When I heard about the new line of freeze dried I was very interested and the food does look great, but sadly the cost of feeding it to a Newf as their main diet would be outrageous.
I mentioned this product to Peter when I first learned of it and he calculated it would cost approximately $20/day to feed a Newf. When I got further details from my sales rep about how much is in a bag, how much to feed it looks like Peter's calculations were pretty close. Brandie's post is correct, a Newf would need 18 or so a day, and the medallions cost $1 each according to my sales rep.
I don't know anyone who can afford $20/day to feed their dog. For now we'll be sticking with their kibble!

The other information I got is reformulation on Orijen's kibbles again and there will be price increases on the Acana/Orijen kibbles 7-9%.
