So last night we finally made it to our obedience class as it had been canceled two weeks in a row, (Snow storm last week, and major power outage the week before), Thor did very well and is moving right along, even though he's 7 months and I've read on here that they tend to move into the teenage years about now.

However the big surprise was when we were doing down/stay, I saw a large bit of hair on the floor, this long black strand!!! It could only have come from Thor as the other dogs were much smaller and lighter in color.

Who knew these dogs shed? (Ok just kidding), but it looks like we are growing out of the puppy hair stage, which I will dearly miss!

Next thing you know someone is going to tell me Newfies drool! (lol)

HA! I guess I should be grateful we only have the puppy coat to deal with for now. BTW, I can't see your picture. :(
It was there and now it's gone, maybe a mod took it down as it was almost life size!!

I will try again. For some reason I can't get the picture thing for this forum.

The droll thing is a myth. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, see pictures or optical illusions on newfs you have seen in real life. :)

As far as the clump of hair, I know sometimes some of what I gather is Snuffles feathers gets pulled out maybe by a paw on it while getting up or by a chair or table leg that catches it.

The good thing about newf hair is that you can gather it up quite easily...as for our lab....his hair is horrible to pick up.

Yes....I too, miss the newf puppy fluff!

Agree,Newfie hair is really easy to pick up,the good thing about Newfie hair is it doesn't stick to your clothes but bad news is,it does get every were,in your drink/food lol

Oh, those puppy fur days...I remember my sister-in-law cleaning up little black hairs at the family cottage the first time I brought Anya up there. The newf hair left behind has since gotten bigger and a lot more around!

Tom, I have a feeling you will be shocked once the adult coat is all in. I was. It felt like I was fighting a losing battle. I kept combing and raking yet the undercoat was still there. One of the best tools for the adult coat is the Mars Coat King 18 blade double wide. You'll be amazed how well it pulls out the undercoat yet leaves the guard hairs. Don't be like me and pull at an angle...poof the guard hairs are gone!

Thor should be coming into his testosterone very soon. Let me know how smoothe that transition goes. I needed a lot of advice at this time.

Love the Mars...but be careful...you can make your newf look "bald"....speaking from experience LOL

Get one now. Trust me. I was a fool and spent the past few years raking and raking and raking. And not getting anywhere.

Did you buy it yet?

Just got my first Mars and I'm wondering if we have any instructional info here as almost nothing came with it. Have been hearing about it for so long I finally sprang for a late Christmas gift for "myself" and got a 23 blade one. Tried it on the Labs and nothing much happened. Used it on Moonlight and did okay. Don't really know what to expect.
