Newf in Mississippi

This one is very close to my heart as this is the very place we got Grady from last year after his owner dropped him off at 6.5 years of age. This is not a good place for dogs, it is a kill shelter and the conditions are not very good. It was hit hard when Katrina hit and has not really recovered. There's tarps over pens, muddy and dirty and very very poor.

In the shelter is a 5 year old Newfie girl black with a white chest, name - Cupcake.

We have four dogs - two Newfies, one 65 lbs mix breed and an Italian Greyhound. The inn is full. We will help out in any way we can, including going to the shelter and getting her (I can make the call first thing in the morning).

Please let me know something, anything as soon as you can - as I said, this is not a great shelter.

Please email me at melissakins@hotmail.com for my info and we will go from there...I really want to get her out of there and into a home.

Can you contact Rescue? I looked up Mississipi and it appears they don't have a regional rescue but Diane Lynch is the contact person.
Hopefully someone else with more knowledge than me will jump in here also.

I emailed Diane Lynch.

Melissa, can you call the shelter in the morning to check on her and let them know people are working on her?

Can you give me any more info on Diane Lynch? I think the closet rescue is in South Carolina. This place is approx 2.5 hours from me give or take a few depending on traffic/weather.

Yes! Thank you!

I'd intended on calling the shelter first thing to find out her info/status, etc and see what we needed to do.

Like I said, Hubs and I have been there before and read some stuff on the shelter while waiting to hear back on Grady. It's not a great place...I mean..the shelter here in town is fantastic - huge brand new facility and I know the folks running it. They're big in the community and the kennels are fantastic. Huge grooming area, huge laundry area...this place...erg. Kinda like a last stop....Just looking at this girl makes me feel so bad as I remember what it was like going to pick up Grady back in November of 09.

We were told he'd been bathed, he'd been there a week before we went to get him...oh heck, I blogged about it and what he looked like. He had huge mats, poop balls on his feet and hair so dirty it was gray and coming out in hunks.

We'll do what we can to help out, transport, going to get her, whatever....

Oh, I hope you can get her out of there as soon as possible! She looks so confused and sad!

Heartbreaking poor baby. Thank goodness for good people to help save good dogs put into these unfair situations.

Okay, just hung up from the shelter. No one has called about her. She just came in yesterday. She was an owner surrender, not been spayed. They didn't have time for her was the reason.

She weighs approx 110 lbs, up to date on all shots, good with cats, other dogs male and female.

I asked about her time frame there. They said so long as she doesn't get stressed or show any signs of aggression towards any other animals there she has "up to three months" but...I was told - they don't put a time frame on their stays there.

Grr.

Excellent. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. Like I said, we're fairly close to the shelter and have been there before.
