MICHIGAN? If you're talking about me (your reference to Donna), Sheila....you don't know how much I hate road trips do you? You're a trooper to drive all that way from FL!! I thought it was amazing that you drove all the way to MD last year!

And if I decide to go to MI for the National in May ... I don't think I'll be making that drive again that soon (just the thought makes me want to stick my head in the sand)! I'm just so excited that the National will be in PA in 2012!!!

Sounds like it's going to be a great time! But I think I'll have to live vicariously through pictures!

You would miss the wedding of the century??? I am quite sure CNN will be there with breaking news. :groovy: Entertainment Tonight.. Access Hollywood, Inside Edition. The paparazzi alone will require extra security...

You're getting pretty easy to convince these days!

Will it be a military ceremony or more on Royalty lines? Also People, Hello, and Time - Man of the Year for follow-up in print!

Donna,
I wish you would come, you have been such a great help to me with all 3 Newfs :)
You could fly out then borrow Ty and even change his name for the weekend to Cole ;)

So far we have 3 great hotels that will welcome the Newfs with open arms :)
Quality Inn by the Bay
It is 13 miles away and across the street from Lake Michigan
They have a 3 dog per room limit and the fee is $10.60 per night
This is their website
http://www.tcqualityinn.com/

The second is
The Holiday Inn on West Bay
This is a very nice hotel approx 17 miles away.
It is directly on the beach of gorgeous clear Lake Michigan
They charge $15 per night per dog with a 3 dog limit.
Here is their website, check out the photos of the beach :)

Lastly (so far)
Is the Super 8, it is also across the street from Lake Michigan
It is 13 miles away
Their limit is 3 dogs per room also, and fee is $15 per dog per night
If you book more than 8 days in advance there is a 15% discount
Here is their website
http://www.super8.com/Super8/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=03606

We only have one small motel that is actually inside the Elk Rapids Village limits and they are too small and don't accept any dogs. It is very nice to stay in Traverse City where these hotels are located. It's very close to Elk Rapids and there is so much to do if you wanted. There is a small town main street, sandy beaches everywhere, boat rentals, parasailing, a Casino, winery tours, fantastic restaurants, etc.. Both Elk Rapids and Traverse City are tourist towns so they cater to the people who visit in the summer.

If you like casinos, you can always put your Newfs kennel in our air conditioned workshop (it's attached to the house and 3,000 sq feet) and head to the casino that is only 15 minutes away. We would be more than happy to babysit :)

For those of you coming Newf-less they also have an attached hotel at the casino

Gee, Good Question!!
Jenn, What do you think? The Commander is marrying a Princess. So do we do Military, in honor of our Commander in Chief? :D OR.... Both, as in Prince Charles and Lady Di? As mother of the Bride, I'm sooooo confused!
With all of the Media planning to attend, This Wedding has to be the affair of the century. I'm already getting calls from magazines wanting to do a spread on "Her Royal Pain's" gown!

That's a thought. Flying to Frankenmuth would have been a nightmare...3 or 4 plane changes depending on where I left from.

Kelly, you have a 3,000 sq ft dog resort? LOL Nice!
Well, it will be a dog resort for that weekend. It is normally Jack's woodshop.
We can't remove the machinery against the walls, but we can take the iceboats out, crank up the air conditioning and use the air compressor to blow the sawdust out...LOL
It will make a good place for cooling the Newfs down or putting their kennels in case anyone wants to go somewhere without them.
It is usually in the 70's here that time of year and with a cool breeze off the lake the Newfs shouldn't get hot, but just in case.

We have an airport right here (15 minutes away) it is small and very easy to maneuver... never busy. It is TVC (Traverse City)

There is also Flint's airport (2 hours from us)

Grand Rapids airport (also 2 hours away)
and
DTW (Detroit airport) 4 hours away.

So there are lots of choices. If you would be flying from a larger airport, you would probably have one stop in Detroit then you would go to Traverse City (TVC). Most people can get here with only the one stop. From the east the stop is usually Detroit. From the west it is usually O'Hare in Chicago.

Edited to add: If you can fly from Baltimore, it's very inexpensive and only one stop to get from there to Traverse City :)

From the airport closest to you, it's 2 stops

Have you ever taken this ferry?
http://tiny.cc/wjrzy
Know anything about it? Tim is all on board for this get-together since we could go on to visit his brother in Ohio afterward.
That's fantastic! It would be great if you could come! River can teach Lola to jump off the dock :)

I have never taken the ferry. I have heard it does not make the trip much shorter because you are on the ferry a really long time. If you are taking the ferry for the experience it is worth it, but if you are taking it to save time or gas it is probably not since I think it is also pretty expensive.
It is really pretty if you drive around through the U.P. and over the Mackinaw Bridge. It just depends on if you like boat trips or not.

Here is the ferry's website
http://www.ssbadger.com/home.aspx

I think it's approx a 4 or 5 hour trip and it's on sale $200 for two people and a reg size car.

So far we have at least 3 hotels in Traverse City that have no weight limits for the dogs.
The only limits are mostly 3 dogs per room.
Two of the hotels emailed and said the Newfoundlands are welcome.
One emailed to say the New Finlands are welcome LOL

One of the hotels is right on the sandy beach of Lake Michigan :)

Here is a link to a Google map showing where Elk Rapids is located. If you zoom out you can see we are surrounded by freshwater beaches. I will put the address on here with more detailed directions when we get closer, but we are within a mile or so of where the dot is that says Elk Rapids on the point that sticks out into Elk Lake around the other side from where it says Spencer's Bay

We LOVE the Traverse City area in Michigan!

After the great time we had with the NN group in Estes Park we are trying to fit this GTG into our vacation plans for next year. Gracie had such a good time she just won't stop talking about it.

What do you think about getting all the dogs on the tall ship Manitou for a picture or cruise? That would be a riot if they wouldn't all be trying to jump into the water the entire time.
