NCA's 2011 Oldest Living Newf Award

There were six nominees for the Newfoundland Club of America's 2011 Oldest Living Newfoundland award; two were 15 years and four were 14. I am thrilled that my girl, Belle, was in this special group and that she was the oldest from Canada. Below is an extract from the letter that I received today. Special congrats to Joyce.

On behalf of the Newfoundland Club of America I would like to announce that the
winner of the award for 2011 is Haven Hills Dances With Chief WRD. Dancer is owned
by Joyce Echon-Butler and was born on May 14,1996. Sadly, Dancer passed away on
August 12,2011 at the age of 15.3 years of age. She will be honored by the NCA with a
special page in the next issue of NewfTide as well as receiving an engraved plaque and
recognition at the Annual Meeting on May 1st at the National Specialty in Pennsylvania.

I thank all of you for submitting your dog's information to me for consideration. I wish
you many more happy times together with your four-footed friends and hope that we
have the good fortune to see some of these same nominees next year.

Gypsy's grandfather & greatgrandfather and Rio's greatgrandfather is my own Merita's father :). Lets hope she will live for as long as these have :) ! Congratulations for Belle!

For so many years, many of us have been told that the "giants" can go 8 - 10yo. I am so happy to see that we are having more and more old timers almost doubling that!!

Bettina, is that true? Because I wrote about Gypsy in Senior forum a couple of days ago and I am down in WA and saw Gypsy who was staying here with her breeder. If this is true, then can you pm me who were her grandfather etc.

With a breaking heart we say goodbye to our bestest. Ch. Nakiska's No Questions Asked ROM. She was my best friend & had slept beside me oh so many nights. It's never long enough, even after 14.5 years. "Nordy" lives on with many, including recent great-great-great grandkids, but it will never be the same. Big chin scratches forever, 7/21/1997-1/30/2012."
