Nail trimmers?

Any one know of a really good quality nail clipper? I'm also looking for a source for silver nitrate sticks (just in case!).

Bumpity, bump, bump, bump! I'm looking for a good nail trimmer too. I was thinking of a Dremel, but am very interested in seeing what everyone else recommends and uses!

I've used this trimmer for quite a while now. I'm on my second one.

I do not use silver nitrate to stop the bleeding, just regular styptic powder (ferric subsulfate). Styptic has even worked well when I've trimmed the sheep's hooves too short. I keep multiple jars of it around here.

I used a dremel on Ebony for a while and liked it, but I find I can get more length off with a clipper instead of grinding away with the dremel making the nail hot. I like to go back over a trimmed nail with the dremel to smooth it off. Have yet to try the dremel on Ross or Pheebs...Ebony was always my willing guinea pig for stuff like this. ;)

I've been using this Millers Forge on Harley-Bear but I'm not happy with it. The stop is not reliable and tends to be too loose:

I have a flexible shaft grinder but Harls does not like it, I imagine he would be the same with a Dremel (he doesn't like noisy machines period.)

I found a source for silver nitrate sticks, $26 for 100. (I've used two in the past two years).

Yeah, it would work for that on very young puppies. Harley had rear dew claws when I got him (at 2 years old). They were pendulous and an accident waiting to happen (particularly in icy conditions). Our vet removed them and let me assist. She said it would have been so much easier had they been removed at birth, could have been done with a nail clipper and a band-aid. Since Harley is a Newf-Pyr cross, he wasn't born into a household that was likely aware of the practice.

Yeh, I've noticed that Kristen. They are good trimmers! ;)

I too have used that trimmer, Kobutsu, and did not like it at all.

I have the one in the link..it works well, though it could be slightly larger to get Oz's nails in properly. I then smooth with a dremel after.

No WAY I would use it for dewclaws though...hemostats and sharp manicure scissors is MUCH neater...a dot of glue..and they are done. You can do it while they are nursing and they don't even cry.
