nail grinders

My pup and nail trimmers just don't mix. I think the dremel option is worth trying...would the Newf.net population care to weigh-in on their experiences regarding nail grinders?

Love the dremel. Makes life SO much easier. I still do their dew claws with a standard nail clipper however.

For years I used the clippers for my Collie & St. Bernard. Now with my Newf, because of all black nail I clipped his quick ones. That was the end of the clippers. I now use the dremel & wonder why i did not do this years ago. It is so much easier on both me and Bär. Most times he just lyes there and snores while i do his nails. Indroduction was easy because he is used to the motor sound of the fur clippers.
I was also considering getting the pedipaws, but since we had a dremel just lying around collecting dust, I started with yet. Please let us know if it is any good for our giant paws.
I tried the sock & pantyhose method, but find that it is more in the way then helpfull. So I just trim the fur around the nails as short as I can. Hubbys mustach trimmer works really good for around the nails. It is battery operated and small enough to handle in tight spaces.
Hope this helps.

I have had a lot of success with the dremel for my dogs. I don't have to worry about cutting too much off and cutting the quick. My dogs don't seem to mind it either so it works best for everyone.

There is an excellent article online that goes into great detail about how to Dremmel your dog's nails. I can't post the link because I am sending this from my phone. Just do a google search for dober dawn Dremmel. It will be the first item in the list. If someone else could post the link here that would be helpful.

Sounds like the dremel is the way to go. But do I get the pet nail grinder or go for one of the muti-pro tools.

You are welcome, Charity! :)

I too am a Dremel user. Ebony whines when I try to use the clippers, but she lays nice and quietly for the Dremel. There is also much less blood with the Dremel...atleast for me! When I quick a nail with a clipper I seem to cut a lot of the quick. With the Dremel if I get the quick I only nick it causing only a pinpoint of blood.

I forgot, a technique (although costs a little) is to put a knee-high stocking over the paw, and let the nails pull through. No hair can get caught in the dremel that way.

I just picked up a dremel and what a world of difference, I can actually do his nails with out any help. Van Gogh does not mind the dremel at all. Thank you for all the info.
