Hi Folks,

Amalfi, a Landseer that I bred was spooked by fireworks yesterday while at a cottage in Quebec north of Ottawa/Gatineau. If you know anyone in the area of Notre-Dame-du-Pontmain or Notre-Dame-du-Laus please ask them to be on the lookout. Any sightings should be phoned in to Stephen at the number below or to me at 705-328-2382.

Newfondly,

Peter

Subject: Amalfi is Missing

Hi Peter;

Thank you for sending out Amalfi's information to the Newf community. She was lost last night (July 13, 2013) on Chemin Grenier in Notre-Dame-du-Pontmain. Here is the link on Google;

https://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Chemin+Grenier,+Notre-Dame-de-Pontmain,+QC&aq=0&oq=Chemin+Grenier&sll=46.250144,-75.671199&sspn=0.012153,0.033023&vpsrc=0&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Chemin+Grenier,+Notre-Dame-de-Pontmain,+Antoine-Labelle,+Quebec+J0W+1S0&t=m&z=16

We searched from the time she ran away (10PM last night) until midnight with 6 people, and then again this morning from 5AM until 12:30PM. We will be staying there for the next two days in hopes that she returns to the cottage.

We contacted the SPCA in Gatineau, and the Quebec Provincial Police. We also visited all of the houses in the area. I am really hoping we can find her. I hope that she isn't suffering.

Attached is a photo of Amalfi, also I attached the lost poster that we are distributing in both Notre-Dame-du-Laus and Notre-Dame-du-Pontmain. We are planning on visiting all of the vet offices in the area and also contacting any breeders in the area with the information.

Thank you in advance for everything you are doing to help us find her.

Peter,

Our trainer in CO lost a whippet while racing one afternoon when the girl took off. Since the property where they lost her was an hour or 2 from home, they left their car their with the door open. The owner of the property checked on the car regularly. About 6 days later when it was about to rain, the property owner went to close the car doors and the dog was inside the car.

Is there anyway Amalfi's owner can do something similar? Maybe if the scent in the car (or something?) is still there, Amalfi will find them?

I hope they find her quickly!

The owners have taken time off work and are staying at the cottage in the hope that she will return there. I'll pass on the tip about the car, thanks.

:dance01: Amalfi has been found :dance01:

Amalfi was in the general area of the cottage but since she had only been there about five times, she did not yet regard it as “home”. Nothing happened until yesterday when two sightings were reported.

Stephen checked out both sighting locations and because of rain he was able to see her tracks and ascertain that she was traveling between these sites.

The gentleman who reported the second sighting not only showed Stephen the spot where he spotted Amalfi but also stayed to help. They took turns waiting at one spot while the other traced back to the second. Stephen even set up a sound system with his voice calling Amalfi and put it on a loop.

At 11:30 pm when it was too dark to see anything they took a sleep break and returned at 4:30 this morning. The other gentleman spotted Amalfi again but when he tried to approach her she spooked again, so he phoned Stephen. When Stephen arrived he saw his girl but she was still spooked so he crouched down and called her – she didn’t come but stayed still and let him come to her. Stephen then took her by the collar to the van where she seemed very relieved.

Amalfi lost weight and had lots of mats with brush and other stuff caught in them. Stephen cut out the mats and bathed her with a flea and tick shampoo and made a vet appointment for a check up.

Thank you all for your support at this terrifying time.

Yes the man who helped was especially wonderful. The gentleman who caused the problem was the opposite. Saturday night, July 13th, Amalfi was playing with his five dogs and another cottage neighbour's dog. Then around 10 pm the man put his five dogs in his cottage and proceeded to let off fireworks without warning the other dog owners. When Amalfi spooked he was the only cottager in the area who did not help in the search.

Fortunately for every inconsiderate person there are even more very caring ones.
