Keeping Drain Unclogged

I have a hose and a bathtub, so when it's yucky out, the only bathing option is the tub. Every time I use the tub, it gets clogged, then I have to buy some Draino. I catch as much hair as I can and brush prior, but it's not doing the trick.

I have this standard type of drain plug.

Any suggestions?

No suggestions. We had a plumber once who took our bathtub drain apart and in a very soft voice said, "lady, this is pretty funky." I know!

lol! Bad by plumbers' standards is pretty bad... I'm sure my drains are well on their way. I'd like to avoid a future plumber's visit if I can.

Hmm... we have a drain similar to that, but ours screws off... meaning if I turn it a bunch of times it eventually screws out and then I can use one of those hair catchers you get at a hardware store to catch all the hair...

There's a certain gentleman on this forum, Bojie I think, that might be able to tell you all about hair catchers for tub drains :uhoh2:

Hah! He can also tell you about tiny red thong underpants, clothes hangers, tin foil, tupperware containers, and a whole host of other things. Meg jokes that he's got an old boot and a license plate still floating around in his stomach, like a shark. If your dog isn't generally destructive, you're probably okay with a hair catcher in the tub.

I sewed a load of washers onto a face flannel and then place this over the plughole area, works pretty well.

To clean my drains I normally put a whole tub of bicarbonate of soda down the plughole and add vinegar or lemon juice, stand well back as it fizzes and foams but is fairly good at drain cleaning, eiter that or add caustic soda

I haven't tried Draino or Liquid Plumber, so I bet they work fine. I tried Roto Rooter and it stunk! I bought a "gun" that shoots "bullets" into your pipe and that worked wonders!!! I got it at either Home Depot or Lowes. I can find out for you, if you are interested, as I need it now!!

Where ever is your sense of adventure??? LOL. I think my dogs have more fun when I am bathing them in the rain. Thankfully, we have a covered carport so I can set up under that when I start drying. I blow out most of the water then finish drying them inside the garage. I have no doubt people driving by think I am a complete looney-toon when they see me in my rain slicker bathing dogs!

You can buy a Stainless steel sreen that fits into the drain, and traps 99% of the hair. Then you just take the screen out and "De-Hair" it. Home Depot/Menards/Lowe's, or any hardware store worth it's salt should have it in the Plumbing section. Works great here.
