Have you discovered food/s that your newf or dogs wont eat??

Finley spit pineapple across the room yesterday and made a sour face! It made me laugh!!!! He is a dog that will eat anything, like many goldens... So he will eat cardboard, but no pineapple, celery, and cilantro!

Mine love all veggies except lettuce, can't think of anything else they would refuse.

Hi
Timber on a raw diet got a rabbit for a treat (I thought it would be...) once. I had to go a long way to a market downtown, it cost a fortune - I even had to remove the head myself...did I mention I'm practically a vegetarian? anyhow, she sniffed it and walked back over to the fridge and waited for her 'real' dinner. Timber eats ANYTHING! In the end, not to waste it cause I wasn't going to eat it, I sauted it in a bit of butter with garlic powder. She finally choked it down.

I think I can answer what my Newf WILL eat easier!! Millie is one picky pup!! And coming from a lab who ate anything and everything, it is still so puzzling to me!!!
She literally snubs her nose to treats when she's just not in the mood!! :)

River always thinks she wants whatever I'm eating. Tomato? Here you go. River: Patooey. Piece of banana? River: Patooey. I've had more fruits and vegetables splatted on my floor from River spitting them out. I have, however, found the proper motivation. Malcolm will eat anything, so if Mal eats it, River must use him as her poison-tester or something, because she'll scarf it right down.

Mila is bananas over bananas, popcorn, yogurt, salmon and cheese of any sort, including soft cheeses with mold rinds, which shocks me a bit. Pretty much anything but a few select veggies, like carrots or green beans.

My cat on the other hand, will turn up her nose at seafood and poultry of any sort, but loves ham, mayo, donuts, bread and chocolate* (and only good chocolate; it has to be Godiva, Vosges, Ghiradelli...nothing beneath Cadbury or else she huffs away in a snoot. "I would never deign to eat Hershey's! What do you think I am, a street urchin?!").

*no worries, I only give her chocolate very occassionally and in infintesimally small amounts. Nothing to put her in any amount of danger.

River and Moonlight have a lot in common, except that Moonlight is not swayed by her buddies. She will not eat tomatoes or bananas. Period. Anything else, if properly motivated by a dousing of something good or the thought that one of the other dogs will get it, and she will choke it down. DH loves to mash bits of things she hates in the bottom of her feed bowl. She will give him massive dirty looks and eat around it or spit it onto the floor. All the others eat just about everything, including some things I wish they wouldn't. Moonlight is the only one that is not a chowhound, but she does love to try to eat sticks and cardboard - not chew up but eat. Bad. Bad.

I really haven't tried much, but carrots seemed to get spit out. I thnk I tried unsalted green beans on his kibble right after Snuffles moved here, and he turned his nose on that.

Elvis doesn't get much due to his allergies, but he's always very interested in what we're eating for dinner. I keep waiting for him to burn his nose or chin on the stove, but that hasn't happened yet. Sometimes we'll give him whatever veggie we're having - he loves peas and green beans. I've given him a raw carrot and celery. I think most of the carrot got swallowed, but the pieces he left on my carpet started to turn it orange! If he gets a carrot again, he's taking it outside. The celery was just one huge, stringy mess, but he tried his hardest to eat it.

The worst face I've ever seen him make was when he swiped a lick of the spoon I had used to take some Pepto-Bismol. I guess mint isn't his thing because he curled his lip up all funky like "What was THAT?!?"

On a random note, we have a cat who seriously goes crazy when strawberry poptarts are in the house. He's opened the pantry, torn through the box, and shredded a wrapper once just to get to them.

When we do give him some of our food for a treat, he acts like it's such a precious thing and must be savored. He gently takes it in his mouth and carries it all over, like he's searching for the perfect spot to eat it. We joke that he has to take it on a tour of the house.

The first time we gave him a chunk of banana he took it on a 5 minute tour, spit it out, looked at it, and then took the tiniest nibbles of it with his front teeth. I thought maybe it was a texture thing, but does that a lot.

Before we knew he had allergies we gave him a whole, cooked hot dog. He carried that thing around and licked it so long we finally had to cut it up and put it in his bowl just to get him to eat it. Trust me, a hot dog covered in newf slobber isn't something you want to touch!
