Here's a list of resources that might help.

Not sure how far you are from Frederick, but thought this one was worth a look. Just click on them in the link.

So sorry to heat this. EPI CAN be treated and controlled. She will need replacement enzymes for the rest of her life. Shop around cause they can be pricy.
Someone on here has or has had an EPI dog. I am sure others will chime in with suggestions.

If you can get hold of a back issue of Whole Dog Journal from I believe March 2009 there is an excellent article. I gave mine away already or I would send it to you.....

Thanks, I pulled out March 2009 of WDJ, and I'm reading it now. I'm just in a bit of shock at the moment....So much to think about/deal with, but I want my girl better!

Doesn't Bluewaternewfs have or had a Newf with this? Try PMing her to ask.
Am really sorry Paula.

I'm so sorry that the result came back as EPI. The good thing is that you know what you are dealing with now. I hope others can help you with any questions you may have. I will keep you and Jasmine in my thoughts!

Ah....I'm so sorry the news wasn't any better. Thank goodness they were able to come up with a diagnosis and you have a way to treat it. I will keep you and Jasmine in my thoughts.

I'm sorry your girl has this, but with care and caution she can lead a normal life.

Doesn't Bluewaternewfs have or had a Newf with this?
Yes, Joan has dealt with it for many years with her girl, Savannah. I'm sure she has a good routine down that can help you.

Thanks, all! I'm at the vet tomorrow for sonogram and start with Enzymes. I just am so sad that she is so young...(only 1 year)... to deal with this....

My goodness, I have special needs Newfs. Halli with the brain tumor, Penny with the ITP and Jasmine with EPI. I guess God has a plan for me.

Just a quick update. Jasmine's sonogram showed nothing abnormal, so no issues like cancer or blockages to worry about. We started Jasmine on the enzyme powder last Wednesday night and she also got her first B12 injection last Wednesday. Within days she started showing almost normal poop! (Never thought I'd be so happy about poop before!!!). The biggest issue we have is she doesn't want to wait 1/2 hour for her food!!! But, she's getting used to it. She is still getting me up in the middle of the night, so not sure what that's about, but overall, we are making great progress.

I'm spending some time educating my vets who would never have tested her for this if I had not insisted. Overall, the prognosis seems promising after just a few short days!!!
