Izzy Update

She is being treated as an "out patient" at present. We have gotten to bring her home at night and take her back each morning for IV fluids all day. They are still trying to flush out the kidneys and get them working on their own. Lab work was drawn this morning but wasn't back tonight when we picked her up. So sometime tomorrow morning we will get an idea of how much function there may be. She still does not act sick at all. She is sleeping on Margot's feet on the couch. She slept last night with Margot too.
Izzy says "thanks for all the prayers and best wishes."

So Susan, I hate being slightly negative...........But are they keeping an eye on how much fluid/urine she is passing out. Because if her kidney are failing and they are giving a lot of fluids, they can give her issues with her heart (heartfailure, too much fluid) or lungs, if her output is not adequat. If you give IV fluids in kidney failure, you need to keep a fluid balance of the in's and out's....... Or have they found a kidney infection and she is not in renal failure. Just checking, because it could be an issue. Wishing Izzy well :hugs:

Thanks for the good wishes. They ruled out a kidney infection. We are still waiting on the Lepto titers to see if that is the culprit. It take 10-14 days to get the titers back. So she is on antibiotics for lepto just in case. Her kidneys from the ultrasound are smaller than they should be which indicates scarring and chronic failure. The problem now is the opposite of fluid overload. She gets dehydrated because the kidneys aren't reabsorbing the fluids it should. Her kidneys are also not producing erythropoetin so she is anemic. That was the first clue something was wrong. Her conjunctiva were very pale so the vet ran bloodwork to
The blood work showed that her kidneys are not working in filtering the blood at all. They are not concentrating her urine or filtering anything out. The fluid is essentially going in and coming back out unchanged. This morning when we went out to potty, her urine was clear, no color at all, which means they are still not filtering the waste products out.
While she gets the fluid she is in a kennel about the size of a large dog crate in the treatment area (ICU). The fluids are being run on a pump to regulate the volume. She is also on Hill's renal diet to limit the amount of protein she is taking in.
My sister remembers coming home and finding a raisin container that had been knocked off the counter. It only had 1/3rd full but certainly enough to cause this. So hopefully possibly knowing the cause will help with the treatment. My sister also said they want to keep Isabella on fluids overnight again, that the lab work had not improved as much as they had hoped it would.
The ve said she would call as soon as she gets a chance.
Thanks gain for the thoughts and prayers!

I'm happy she's home with you at night...that's got to be a comfort for all of you.
