Since my last post in mid-Nov, I've been a victim of ID fraud (someone in S. Korea hacked into my machine), so I haven't had the chance to keep up with this forum. Missed it terribly. Hope after 2 months I've finally changed my access and pswd to this acct; doesn't compare to the Bank Account, Credit cards, Retirement Account, auto bill paying accts, etc, etc, that have had to change. And to think that in my last professional job, I warned JPMorgan Chase IRA participants to be 'careful' and what info should and should not be posted. Sheez. When those doing the 'advising' get hacked, it's extremely problematic!!

Hope everything gets rectified soon. Too scary! I am sooooo stupid on this machiine, I can't even imagine how people can hack computers. Yes, I know it does happen, but...

I'm not really sure how they 'hacked me' as I always use a secured network, but my IT brother is scheduled to come up here from Tulsa in a couple of weeks, and he said he'll be able to see exactly how they came in (b/c he said they leave traces on jpgs or anything you might choose to open...and I only 'open' dog stuff....scarey!). I doubt it's as cut and dried as he says, although at JPMorgan we couldn't tell plan participants exactly how someone had actually accessed their computer (liabilities in case it was an 'inside job'), but thankfully, the folks at Bank of America were kind enough to lead me by the nose to understand exactly what they were initimating. It's something I'll still be battling several months from now----> may have to actually change my SSN, which worries me, due to all the work history (I'm in my mid to late 50s).

What a fiasco. Thanks to all who welcomed me back. I've missed your news and want to catch up. Dogs keep us SANE, literally!

One thing everyone can do to protect themselves is this- IF you have no need to apply for credit anytime soon- Freeze your credit bureau accounts. For younger people it may cost you $10 or so, for those on SS it's free. Equifax sends you snail mail a code to unlock quickly if you need to. The other two take a while. While this won't preserve your bank account it should stop them from being able to open new credit in your name. The credit bureaus don't like to do it (after all it's work for them) but they have to if you request it. I don't recommend it if you think you are going to apply for new credit because it does take a while to get all of them open.
