Is the K-9 III Dryer inconvenient to take to a show?

I'm in the market for a dryer and have spent countless hours researching. So far I have in narrowed down to either the K-9 III (for its power) or the Double K Challengair AirMax (for its portability & less sound)

My dryer will have to be both my at home dryer and the dryer I take to shows with me. I realllllyyy like the K-9 III and have heard good things but I'm just a little nervous if it will end up being too inconvenient to haul around and groom with at the shows because of it's weight and noise.

I was curious if anyone takes there K-9 III to shows with them and if they have any issues with portability or the amount of noise they make.

Any help is super appreciated as I'm driving myself nuts with trying to dry my monster with a Shop Vac haha

Only bad thing I have heard about the K-9 III's is that they sometimes trip the breakers at shows because they run higher amps than the others.

I take my K9III and my K9Mini to shows. I leave the K9III in the van though. I just have it in case an emergency bath is needed. I take the Mini in to the show to blow them out, it's just a lot lighter to haul around. You can always run the K9III on one motor if there is a breaker issue.

We have found this to be the issue - it's not really the dryer, it's the rustic show sites that can't handle the surge of all the dryers, regardless of brand. We also always take heavy duty electrical extension cords and a roll up with its own outlets because there are never enough to go around. And depending on the site, duct tape to keep from tripping everyone when the cords snake around all over the ground! http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200317565_200317565

The K-9 III is a little bulky for some to take to shows, but many do. A more popular choice for shows is the Mini K-9. It is powerful and portable. The K-9 II is more portable and would be good for home and shows.

I take my K9III to shows. I've never had a different dryer so I don't know the difference! To me, it's not any more cumbersome than lugging all of my other stuff in, so I've had no problem. I've found that I need to hook up my dryer to a different outlet than my Newf friends who I am next to sharing space, otherwise we're bound to blow the fuse, but I've also learned to make friends with the show site staff by bribing them with human goodies, and they give me a handful of fuses and show me where the breaker is:) I love this dryer, and can't imagine the extra time I'd have to tack on if I had one with less horsepower. I also find that my friends who bring their dryers with fewer amps end up using mine when I'm not using it. They even go as far as arriving an hour earlier than me so that they get a head start and can use it first:)

If you haven't purchased a dryer yet, I need to plug SoundbayNewfoundlands here. Lynn sold me mine 6yrs ago. Quick and easy to purchase, very quick delivery and fantastic customer service:) In fact, I just emailed her the other day to ask her a question about it. She sells many different models. Here's her link http://www.ebay.com/sch/tennis-156/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25

Awesome! You guys are the best. All the info you gave will help me make my decision this week. It can just be such an overwhelming amount of information when researching dryers and I certainly prefer first hand experiences.

Thanks a bunch!

I have different dryers. As Patty mentioned we have a lot of dinky show sites down here where plugging in K9-II or III will trip breakers. I have a Kool Dry (Chris Christensen dryer) and Laube I take instead. My Laube is equiv to K9 Mini. Bigger sites I take my Circuiteer-II. I got rid of Airmax. K9 or Circuiteer held up better in long run and so has my Kool Dry. Dryers get beat to death lugging them around back and forth. When packing Circuiteer-II I carry heavy duty extension cord and gfci plugin.

Just wanted to chime in with my thanks to Lynn @ SoundbayNewfoundlands. I just ordered a K9III from her and it should arrive tomorrow:allg069:. Super easy, great customer service and a better price than I saw anywhere else online!

Another plug for Lynn's ebay shop - we bought our dryer from her and her CS is great! :)

IMO all dryers are loud, really loud. I can't speak to the show but imagine all those dryers going at once will tax just about any fairgrounds/arena location...

The K9 lll is the only drying as far as I'm concerned. Had ours for almost two years now, an awesome piece and a must for any Newf owner. If you want the best K9lll hands down.

I have found the K9 III to be inconvenient to take to shows & travel with, but despite that, I still wouldn't ever change it to anything less powerful. Bought all of ours from Lynn, oldest being about 8 years now, love them :).

I have the K-9 lll in the kennel (it goes to the National) and take a Double K to shows. I really don't like the Double K. It gets too dang hot. I'll have to check out the K-9 mini.

I never like the Double K either. It was my first dryer and I sold it shortly after.

I like my K9Mini for shows, I bought both it and the K9III from Lynn, love them both!

I prefer the hose on the Circuiteer which is what used to be on older K9's. I bought Circuiteer this time around. Hose holds up better than one on K9 and my other dryers. I usually end up replacing the hose. Never replaced the hose on old K9 I had.

Is the K9III worth the money? Especially if you only have one or two dogs? It just seems mighty expensive, given that there are so many other dog dryers out there for half the price...

ABSOLUTELY! The others will take you twice the time to dry and as I said with the Double K, will often overheat. I use mine for non-dog tasks also - cleaning out the garage, cleaning off filters, blowing off the porch...

I bought mine from Sound Bay and so have many of my puppy buyers. Lynn's prices can't be beat.

Worth every penny. The way I rationalize it.. even with just one dog that I don't bathe all that often, it -STILL- pays for itself in not having to take him to a groomer :) If I had a dryer that didn't work as well, I'd be much more tempted to just pay to have someone else do the work.
