what I learned today
Montanna was used for Cattle Cutting in his recent past, but the cowboy I purchased him from said, "I have too many and He's not one of the Best, so, someones gotta go".
I purchased him based on his ability to "handle"... in simple terms, he has power steering; Where I want to go within inches! Love it!
Now, his training also means He's not a horse you need to kick... "Where are we going... what's the job", thats his mindset..GREAT!
Until....
You decide you want to go out on the first nice day in a week and take a few shots from horse back...
It was a great oppertunity.... a good sized Hawk perched just in frount of me. I stopped to get the camera ready and Montanna just didn't understand "stop....what for???" So I told him to woah, and went to sight the bird again... it had flown....but, wait....Gliding....Right in front of me....What a shot!!!.... Well, it might have been.... just then Bella the Bernese also saw the Hawk, and, although Lolly didnt see it, well, just chasing and barking with Bella is enough for him. Montanna reared,... the hood fell off of my lens (fingers were geting a tad fridgid, guess I didnt attatch it properly) and, needless to say, no shot was taken.
I had to dismount, stuff my damp lens hood in my pocket and trudge through the 2 feet of drifted snow to find a place with enough height to allow me to remount (ya! That's right, I'm vertically challenged...)
So what did I learn? He's a great ride, but, I don't think I'l be taking any pics from the back of this horse for quite some time...lol.
