My neighbor is involved with a group that rescues Goldens, but she is more involved with the doodle rejects that they get all the time - too big, they shed, too hairy, too much work, etc. She fosters and hosts adoption parties when litters get dumped. She also has a Labradoodle that was dumped a few years back, and it is the wackiest dog I have ever seen. Think of the energy of a Lab and a Poodle on steroids. If anyone who was serious about a "breed" would consider how they're ramping up the activity level of a dog, they would never cross these two. I agree with those who say "a mutt, is a mutt, is a mutt", and God bless 'um but don't intentionally create 'um. It's not making a new breed, it's making a big mess.

If you don't want something drools or sheds then you don't want a dog. Dogs drool and shed. That is never going to change.

$1500 bucks for a mixed breed dog and you know -nothing- about it's parentage???!!! Wow.. there REALLY IS a sucker born every minute! If you're going to have a crap shoot.. adopt. Part of what I'm paying for with a purebred dog from a reputable breeder is some assurance that some care has been taken in its creation. This is such a total crock.

Not too long ago those types of mixes were called mutts, I do not intend to hurt anyones feelings, it is such a shame, they should just get a shelter dog and forget about breeding

For heaven's sake, adopt a mutt from the Humane Society and have a DNA test run on it. Then you can tell everyone *I* have a corgi-tzu or whatever you find.

A mutt is a mutt is a mutt. Not that there's anything wrong with a mutt, but there's nothing fancy about it. It's a mix of two dogs = mixed breed = mutt.

Exactly. It's not a hybrid, or a designer dog. It's. A. Mutt. Also, I'm really tired of the "because we mixed them, they'll be healther" b.s. Really? Show me the proof on that. Oh wait, you can't. Because it isn't tracked for MUTTS.

You and I ! I can live without ever hearing, doodler, poo, and the dreaded teacup
How 'bout a teacup Newf??? :!rolling:
But seriously, our first dog was a pup in a shelter...a Lab-something. Great dog. So if you want a mutt, adopt a shelter dog. If you want to be assured of certain qualities and temperment, go to a Good breeder. But for heaven's sake, don't confuse the two and call a mutt a designer breed.

Was just thinking, maybe if we gave mutts a classier name? a Melange? :icon_stupid:

I'm such a bad person. I was at the vet's last year and a lady had her "Doodle-Something" there. She was telling everyone how she had to wait for this dog, and it was sooooooooooo special, and hypo-allergenic, yada yada, yada. Then she said she paid $4,000.00 for this mutt. It was too much for me, I just burst out laughing, and out of my mouth came; "OMG lady you mean to tell me you paid $4,000.00 for a MUTT!!??!!" Got quite pretty quick. Didn't hear another peep out of her. The Vet's wife then added insult to injury by telling her there was no such thing as a Hypo-Allergenic dog. Wonder if she ever came back.\

Yes I was bad, and I spanked myself later.

It was all I could do not to jump on the thread in this parenting forum yesterday - the Bernedoodle was the worst offender but there were a LOT of Labradoodle/Goldendoodle families singing the praises of their "breed". I managed to control myself and suggested, since they wanted a larger dog, to check into a standard poodle (who IMO gets forgotten in Doodle land, and can be a completely fabulous dog).

If anyone had posted the Newfypoo I think I would have lost it (along with my friend Hudson who's also on the other forum, LOL!).

I work with someone who has a Golden Doodle. He's the perfect dog, they got him because their son is allergic to dogs, and he was bred to not shed, and have a wonderful temperment.

He sheds, is crazy hyper, and the dog has allergies. ( I find that ironic ) Also, the son is, wait for it......allergic to him. She can't give me an answer as to why they just didn't get a Standard Poodle. No testing was done on either parent before they were bred to each other, and according to her, he's healthy simply because he's a hybrid. I admit I get really annoyed with her when she starts talking about "hybrids", and I know I've annoyed her when I pointed out he's a mutt. All these so-called breeders are doing are clogging up shelters and rescues with dogs that aren't fitting this idea in someone's head, and creating a huge mess.

My former boss's family adore dogs, but he has allergies. Their previous dog was a Nova Scotia Toller...wonderful dog. Anyhow, they decided to try a Labradoodle. Returned it to the breeder in 3 weeks. Nastiest animal they'd ever had!

Now have a Boston terrier...short hair, allergies minimal. But what a close call. Another friend has a standard poodle and it's a wonderful animal. Has actually changed my mind about poodles.

My mom has a standard poodle, she is a great dog all around. She is now 7 years old and still has boundless energy. I can't imagine her bred to a Lab you might as well get a border collie. Poodles are great dogs just as they are, they need no "improvement" by being bred to another breed. I think people get a doodle because they think it is embarrassing to say they have a poodle. People just don't know poodle history, and because it is not in the sporting group category.
