I am an 11 mos. old brown Newfie who has Forelimb/Elbow Anomaly. My Mom really struggled to find any information and help diagnosing and treating/managing it. Mom learned a lot on her mission to help me and wanted to share everything she learned to help breeders and owners of dogs that might be affected with Forelimb Anomaly. The hope is it will become an online community for others who have experience with it or are trying to deal with treating it. Fortunately, I am doing much better now and I even run, hop and trot when playing! I hope you will it out at www.sulathenewfie.com. There are resources, stories and more! And more to come! This is just the beginning!

Welcome Sula! I visited your website. Your mom did a great job.
Glad to know that your legs are improving and you are more active and not in so much pain.
Please post pics of yourself when you get a chance and keep us updated on your progress.

Hi Everybody!!!! Thank you for such kind and welcoming words! I am glad you found the website informative. The entire thing is so hard on everyone involved and not being able to get info and feeling alone in it makes it even worse. I just didn't want others to feel that way if our experience and those of others would help they feel supported. I got REALLY lucky in finding a few people initially that were there for me at all hours for everything (though they had personal experience with FA). When I found Karen Henson, for the first time I didn't feel alone. My hope is by raising awareness of it that if others find their dog is getting "funny legs" that someone might realize that it might be FA and direct them accordingly. I have received additional stories and info that I plan to post in the next couple of weeks and I need to add onto Sula's blog too. I will let everyone know when it is updated. Again, thank you SO much for your interest and encouragement! P.S. Hi Belle and Bentley (Bentley - I am sorry to her about your leg. :-( Hope you get fixed up soon so you are back to playing in no time!)

Again, thank you to the additional nice welcoming messages from the last couple of days! I am really glad you like the website. Mom spent a lot of time helping me on it (my paws were just a little too big for the keyboard, but I did INSIST on helping her a lot. I also had to interrupt her a lot basically telling her to put the computer down and to play with me instead (I mean, really, the website was important but sometimes she needs to get her priorities straight!) Anyway, it was important to me that she know I was her partner in this, just because she was having to do the typing, I made sure she let people know everything I wanted to tell them. Now that it has launched, I have met other dogs like me from all over the world! They got lucky too and had moms (and dads) like mine; and breeders who really cared too and wanted to try to help their humans owners to have the best life we can. Now that we are connecting and sharing information and knowledge, we can hopefully help so many more people and have a place for people to go when dealing with this in the future. But until more research is done and testing can be done in advance (like cysternia) more puppies like me will come into this world. I just hope they get the same chance me and my new friends got. Maybe breeders and owners will now know what is involved and understand that, under the right conditions, we can still be happy dogs and have a pretty decent quality of life. For those on Facebook, if you are not already my "friend", I would welcome a friend request. You can find me under "Sula Thenewfie".

Hi CMDRTEB! I think so too. Are you going to the NCNC HOWLIDAY party Dec 1st? If so, please come up and re-introduce yourself. :) I confess I am not always the best with names and faces, and when you add dogs names and faces into the mix... its doubly challenging! I may or may no be there with Sula as I think she is finally coming into heat and not confident she will be through with it before the party. Which is really disappointing. She LOVES the Newf parties! Meeting people is all nice and well but other dogs is what she lives for. :)
