Hi all,

So Teddy is now 9 weeks old and until last night had been sleeping through the night. I'm trying to think about the things that were different last night. I'm going to cut out water sooner in the evening so that he (in theory) won't have to pee quite so often.

I was also thinking about trying to prevent him from napping so much in the evening, but I worry about this because I know he needs to sleeps lot. Any ideas? Like... Any ideas at all?

Try a fan. He may be getting hot. Plus the noise is comforting to them. I assume you have him in a crate. That helps since it will become 'his' space. No water at least 3 hours before bed.

he's a baby. you should anticipate that for a while, he's going to need to go out every 3-4 hours at night. That's the price for having a puppy. Be patient, and realistic. Also...that 3-4 hours may vary...one night it may be every 2 hours, then one night he may sleep 5 hours straight. Drink a lot of caffeine in the daytime and remember, this too shall pass.

You're really lucky if he's 9 weeks and sleeping through the night, but he is Still a baby. A crate is an excellent way of handling his night time needs...and piddle pads if he has an accident. He really does need his naps too. Puppies nap A LOT.

Chill out newbie... :ah:

You are in the right place and yes.. you got yourself a baby angel who is going to be spectacular... I am the worst for transferring anxiety so don't make the same mistake.. Just love and cuddle and do what the people who know more than me suggest... Welcome...:dance01:

He is just a baby and has a long way to go before he has control through the night. You should see an improvement in a few weeks. You can give ice cubes in the evening in lieu of water.

Thanks for he help guys!! That fan really worked. It freaked him out for a few minutes but then he calmed down and slept of a few hours.

The problem isn't really waking up. I wake up several times a night anyway so I'm fine with that. The problem is getting him to go back to sleep after we come back inside. He'll bark for quite a while. So far he people I live with have been cool about, but I don't wan to push my luck. That fan really seemed to help though. I'll try ice cubes next. Thanks!!

Try to make the trips outside as fast as possible, and calm. So, he will stay relaxed and go back to sleep faster. Maybe.

I have a 5 month old Newf and we were having problems with him barking throughout the night as well. We would take him out to go potty, bring him back in and he wouldn't have any desire to sleep, he would just sit there and bark at our 7 yr old Newf that sleeps in the same room. We just recently tried a blanket over his kennel (and by recently I mean we did it for the first time last night!) and it seemed to work. We took him out at 4:30 this morning and when we brought him back in he settled in right away! That might be something to try... Just make sure the blanket doesn't completely cover the kennel because it might get too hot for him. Leave a little open space around the bottom so that air from the fan can get in there! One thing about Newfies... they are ALWAYS hot!! :)

All the suggestions here are great, but he's nine weeks old. Things like that are going to happen! :) Just roll with it
