well, you certainly know how to get MY attention. Then again, I consider myself a connoisseur of Landseer tushes, thanks to Nanook.

so does Nanook let you brush his butt? Harley will let me brush and comb everything BUT his butt... he does not like that area touched at all.

Let? I do not give him a choice. He can like it or lump it. :neener: If I didn't brush his tush, it's entirely possible that the fur back there would eat small birds and mammals.

well maybe LET was not a good word. the better question would be HOW.

If i try to brush it he tends to either sit or walk away or turn around. he really does NOT like it.

I put Nanook on a leash, and I sit on the leash while I work him. If I see him start thinking about sitting down, I put a hand under his belly, down by his groin, and say "eh eh - Stand."

He gets the same treatment if he tries to circle away, "eh eh - stand." And I don't stop until he is standing politely. He gets a cookie and released from the stand and the grooming session ONLY when he is standing politely. Sometimes in order to reward the good behavior I have to stop before he's done - I try and judge when he's really had it, and stop before he reaches his limit.

Pheney has hit that high rump stage also. Nor does he particularly like having his nether regions brushed - I usually brush when they're laying down, and will just keep working away with appropriate corrections as necessary. We have "No Options" when it comes to certain things - very similar to NILF - it's MY choice and only my choice. Just like Nessa, I try to judge the upper limits and end things on a good note.

you do have the Mars coat king ... it has turned night into day in terms of grooming the rear. I can honestly say Millie doesn't mind tail feather grooming any more and Winston's relatively chill as well. This is a first in my "newf career."

ONLY the best grooming tool EVER!!

Nigel hates his behind to be touched, and his rump is higher too.

His groomer also said that he really doesn't like to be groomed back there. She had an intact male be this way, and then after he was no longer intact he acted better about it. We'll see, for now I'm just working on him on a daily basis.

Nessa, you need a Mars Coat King. I could not live without it. I just attacked Nanook with it out of doors for the second time this spring, and removed a garbage bag's worth of fur. It's a very windy day, so most of it is now stuck in the tree branches in my yard! *laughing* It looks like I have some very odd ideas about how to decorate for Easter.

Nessa, I laughed out loud when I read your comment.:!rolling: I do believe without a doubt that Nanook has the best tush of any Landseer I've ever seen. Most assuredly he has the most notable tush of any Landseer. I just came home from the groomer with Gabe (Gabe was groomed, not me :) ) and as Gabe turned and walked away I said to myself that, "By golly, Gabe's beautiful tush is really starting to resemble Nanook's!" He still has a way to go but Gabe and I hold our tush ideals up to Nanook's standard!:p

definetly get the mars coat king, I bought one recently and boy does it make the job easier, if Beau tries to sit down I put an arm around his back and hold him underneath to hold him up. He doesn't like his butt or chest area being done but he has no choice. I dread to think how much fur has already come out of him and how much more still to come.

May have to consider the MCK - Pheney is a bit touchy back there, I think I may have pulled unintentionally when I was brushing him shortly after his arrival (BAD MOMMY!) when he was still so scared - he had just been neutered, so I'm sure it wasn't a pleasant experience. BUT... right now he doesn't have any appreciable undercoat... so, should I wait to get one? I don't want him to end up bald, tho I certainly thought he was going to be couple of months ago when he blew coat all over the place. Definitely wouldn't be afraid to use it on Ms. Onyx - she's got a wonderful yak butt going.
