Mila making foot long floogers in anticipation of her special dinner of grilled Mahi-Mahi. This was the ONLY decent pic I got of her, as she was too busy sassing me and busting out tricks in quick succession in hopes of scoring dinner in a more timely manner (lay down! sit up! paw! lay down! sit up! paw! lay down! sit up! paw!)

Getting a birthday bath (omg, she was starting to get RANK):

And here's a random pic from last week after Rowan put a pair of 3D glasses on her and she happily obliged (and before I gave her head a much-needed shaping/ear trimming):

Happy Birthday, Mila! (We celebrate for the whole week, so I'm not really late, right?!) I love the pictures and was thinking how lovely trimmed her head and ears are! Can you come teach me how to do that, please!?! I can't figure out what I don't like about how the groomers have done Suki's head, so I don't know what to ask them to do differently. Maybe I just need to buy myself a pair of scissors! Either way, I love how you did Mila's and I love her adorable sassy self!

When I first started going to Mila's groomer, even though she told me that she was experienced in grooming Newfs (even for show), I still printed this up and gave it to her. Just in case. I would do the same! http://www.watercubs.com/en_articles_grooming_trimming.htm

As for what I do, I have no idea! I just start hacking away at her ears and head with my thinning shears (and curved shears, around the bottoms and underside of her ears) and then if I notice any choppiness on her ears, I actually take her Mars Coat King to them. Seriously. Sounds totally stupid, but it works decently enough for me. I'm not brave enough to trim her necks, so I also use the MCK there to thin it out! I'm sure my shaping methods would make most experienced Newf groomers shudder

And she sits nicely for this?? I cannot imagine Millie sitting still for it! I trim hair in her toes and she she freaks out!

No, not really. I wish though! I usually have to wear her out beforehand, otherwise grooming her in any way, shape or form is like wrestling a very strong, greased pig. Even then it's a multi-step process. I usually can only do one side at a time, but if she's SUPER tired, I can physically roll her over and/or hold her head up and do it all at once! Needless to say, I would give a kidney for a grooming table.
