Gunny my 10 year old newf is having a problem. It started around 6. I let him out and he pee about 4 times. He came in and went right back out again and started peeing again. He is panting alot and very restless. If it wasn't so hot I would let him stay outside. Every few minutes he want to go outside and pee. He peed on the rug a few times. He also threw up. It sound like a uninary track infection.
My question, do you think I should take him the the emergency hospital or wait till tomorrow morning and take him to my vet. I have cephalexin Should I try giving him that.

A UTI in a girl is not necessarily an emergency, but boys can become blocked more easily and passing a stone can create a great deal of pain because of their anatomy. At least a call to the E-vet is warranted.

Due to his age if he were mine I would go ahead and take him in. Everything is tougher on them as they age. I would not take a chance on letting him get behind the eight ball with this.

Glad you went to the vet. Hope they find out what's bothering him and it's an easy fix. Feel better sweet boy!

Back from the vet. He has a UTI, the vet put him on cephalexin, gave him a shot of rymdel and also something to settle his stomach. The vet wanted to do blood work and xrays but I feel if he needs that I can have my vet do it. Gunny is resting now. He really scared me. I have never seen him so restless, and his heavy panting. I am glad I went even though it cost $475. Thanks for all the good advice. Please keep him in your prayers.

Glad to hear you guys are ok....better days ahead, hope it's a simple uti issue, zeke was very restless as a young one so I can only imagine it's worse the older they get. Hope it's a solved situation

How's he doing today? If you haven't seen a great improvement, I'd get him to your vet. Good job on the quick response. I'm sure he appreciates it.

Gunny is doing much better. I am so glad I didn't wait and instead took him to the emergency vet. He has been sleeping alot today. This morning he would pee several times when he went out but by this afternoon when he would go it he would only pee once. I am feeding him a little less food today too. So he is on the mend but I think at his age it might take a little time plus it is so hot here. Thankfully we have central air.
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. I will keep you posted.

Sigh of relief your boy is on the mend...he must have felt miserable. Good for you for taking him to vet so quickly. Now you both should rest more easily.
