We do this for sheep, too. It helps a lot.I shave the Mother's belly and up her sides. I also do a sanitary cut and trim the rear and hock feathering's short. I like to use Vet wrap and wrap their tail once labor starts.

I have a couple of these two....got them at a farm auction for $2 each, just about brand new. Bleached them to be on the safe side, and I love them too.Oh and I also have 2 Kane heat mats...I LOVE them...much better then a heating pad.

Tail is docked, so too short to wrap! But we do the sanitary shave, and wash the underbelly and groin region. I don't use anything but warm water on the bag and nipples though - don't want to mask or remove the udder smell that helps guide the lambs to the bag.I've never had any problems wrapping the tail...I start at the top and wrap to the end....maybe your not doing it tight enough?

Nessa, do you wrap the sheep's tail also?....

I agree with Lou Ann, you're not wrapping it tightly enough. Don't worry that you're getting it too tight. The amount of tail hair won't allow that.I tried wrapping Sugar's tail with vet wrap when she whelped one of her litters, it came off before the second pup was born. Is there a secret to getting it to stay. It just slipped right down off her tail. Didn't unravel.
just an update (from facebook): Minnie's had 6 pups so far. Will let zoe come and update you on the progress..!
