Newfoundland Dog
Adult, Female
Lola is a lovable, friendly, gentle giant 5 yr old pure bred Newfoundland in need of a new home. She gets along great with other animals and kids - she's spent the last 4 years helping raise our two kids. Unfortunately due to our current living situation we need to find her a new home. She is not a low-maintenance animal. As all Newfies do, Lola sheds and drools a lot, particularly after drinking water (which is often!). She is also quite stubborn (or lazy, depending on who is judging her) and sometimes requires help getting up when lying down on hardwood or slippery floors. Finally, she is on urinary incontinence medication, which was prescribed after she was spayed and we noticed leakage. While on meds this is not an issue though. These minor inconveniences aside, Lola is a great companion and probably the friendliest dog I've ever known.

Where did you see this ? I would like to sent to a CT rescue.
There is also a Newfoundland rescue in CT "ThatNewfoundlandPlace.org" Cathy Derench (860)742-7486. Cathy used to run NCNE rescue and now she has her own.

What a beautiful dog...She looks gorgeous and well bred. I hate this, it is just too sad. :(
I hope someone is looking for a beautiful newf friend

my thought is, the economy is kicking my butt too, but I would not give away one of "my children", I would just figure out another corner to cut and NEVER consider letting one of my Newf friends go....just sayin...

Although I totally understand where you are coming from (I think like you, hell would freeze over before I gave my dog away), I can understand how someone could choose to re-home a pet. I have no children, but I think that if it came to being able to keep a roof over my human children's head and food in their bellies vs keeping a beloved pet, the human children would come first, even if it killed me to do it. Hopefully rescue can help there people out and Lola will be placed in an excellent home.

She is near me, I would gladly foster her until a home can be found. Or transport, if one has been found.

As a mother and a Newf owner, I have agree with Beth. On both counts :)

I'll forwarded to Cathy Derench and she had already called with no response. I will call as soon as it's a decent hour. Between all of us, she should have a new forever home in record time!

Wow. I would adopt her in a flash. I have mucho experience with stubborn female newfies ... they a riot! We love 'em stubborn. As for the the incontinence issue --- seriously, that is so common and easily treated. We had a girl with that as well, and needed periodic medication post=spay. An inconvenience really, nothing more.

I really don't judge this family. I love that they explained she is NOT a low maintainence dog. That is true for all newfs. Times are so hard -- what if they had to move in with family that wouldn't or couldn't allow a dog in the house. Should the family be homeless?? This lady (if she ever picks up the phone) is taking care of business and finding a new, hopefully awesome home. There is no shame in what she is doing. Life surely is kicking her butt right now.

Edited to add-- I can't take this girl right now as we have a two Newf max in our house. But I am confident she'll be snapped right up.

Darn!! I wish the owner would at least let you know if she is taken, or they changed their minds, or whatever is going on! Not knowing is frustrating!
