Kolby has been with us for 3 months . Breeder fed sportsman pride - poor food. Been on Nulo medal series chicken for 2 months. I rotate coconut oil (organic extra virgin) and salmon oil supplement every other day. Been to groomer once. Has had 2 baths since with us. Once at groomer and once because it was absolutely necessary after playing in mud. His coat is dull but very soft. Any ideas? Does his puppy coat need to grow out? Doesn't scratch a lot.

Sounds like puppy coat to me if it was dry then l would worry.

Keep grooming him and adult coat should start showing soon, coats do vary a lot in texture at times

Feed him sardines. Obi is also six months. We've rinsed his feet but he's never needed a bath yet. Even when we went hiking through the mud it just brushed right out. Same with sand at the beach. Sometimes we use a conditioning spray though.

I concur with the sardines. Fatty cold water fish with high omega 3 content. You should look at Peter Maniate's diet suggestions for his puppy families. It's very similar to what I feed Orca.

The transitional coat is the worst! Orca's got this beautiful glossy adult coat all on his torso, but his legs/feathers and butt are just awful! No matter how many times I pull the slicker brush through, there's more undercoat. Ughhhhh. It might be time to invest in more grooming equipment for our little puppers, methinks? Although, at 6 months, they're not so little anymore, are they? :)
