Drooling Question

I'm just curious how many of you have newfs that do not drool. I know when I signed on I said it wouldn't be a problem, but I am quite relieved that Murphy doesn't drool. When I see some of the famous flooger pictures it grosses me out. We are researching a second dog right now and the only thing stopping me from another newf is the chance I could get a drooler. So how many of you have non-drooling newfs?

I find my newf only drool in certain situations.. like tasty food, kids running around like fools making them excited, stress, right after drinking..

Other than that, i think it has something to do with the size of the flews..

I think the odds are greater that you would get a drooler. Angus is one of the so called non-drooling Newfs... who drools plenty. If I was to base my decision on drool (or lack of) I think I would look at other breeds.

Bella only drools when there is yummy food or something really exciting around. I think Mojo is going to drool all the time....but we'll see.

Nigel will literally water at the mouth when there is food being offered to him.

Other than that, if they are thirsty they actually drool, or if they are really hot. I can't tell you how many times I've seen drool on the dogs, then noticed that their water dish was empty! I think they clean out the yuck with the drinking of the water. On a daily basis they are not drooly at all. They have messy mouths, but not floogers. If they rub up against you, you'll have a wet spot, but that's about it.

Ours are still young but Ursa and Sadie very rarely drool. Only if they are waiting on something particularly yummy to eat. Fargo also has a messy mouth and has produced a flooger or two. I expect him to be a drooler when he gets older.

(btw - in case you were wondering why Ursa was listed - Pyrs are droolers too. it's all drool and hair at my house!)

I had 1 out of 4 that did'nt drool MUCH. He still drooled every now and then. You should really try and accept the drool. You might end up w/one that drools like my first newf did, or like my Roger does. What I mean by that is they basically drool for the heck of it:lol:

Chance, Molly and Mira don't drool except when there's tasty food involved. Even the Goldens drool then.

Cole drools. Addie drools more than the others and less than Cole.

Flooger still grosses me out. I never look at the flooger pictures and say "Man, I wish Brody drooled more!" When he does drool, it really is no big deal. Unless of course, he shakes his head in the car.

Drool would not stop me from getting another Newf.

Bailey does not drool she might be extra wet after a drink but that is about it. But Brutus my Gordon/mix drools big time when there is food to be had or wild game to be chased in the back yard.

I am happy to say that our Montana is NOT a drooler. :groovy: I'd love him just as much even if he was - but thankfully it's one less mess I'm cleaning up during my day.

You had me completely laughing out loud! The thought of drool didn't stop me the first time, but I'm expecting another baby in a few months and I usually go on a clean freak lockdown when that happens. My daughter is driving me crazy for a small toy poodle. I'm not really a small dog person, but I think maybe with my clean freak tendencies it might be time for a clean freak dog. I told her all dog choices need to be made when the new baby is 6 months old and I am no longer clinically insane. I really want to add a landseer to the mix, but it is important to know your own limitations and perhaps time to consider other family members as well. It sounds like it is the luck of the draw.

If a newf doesn't drool, how do you decorate the ceilings? My absolute favorite newfy-art are the shadows of newf drool as they project onto the masterpieces under glass in the picture frames.

Annabelle only drools when there is something nice on offer or when she is very hot.
Abbey had the largest amount of drool one could ever imagine, Jessy and Josh had a minimal amount and Zack was quite a lot. So it seems like "pot luck" to me. But some of our friends have labs, great dane and rottweilers that drool quite a bit. I have just got so used to it, I hardly notice. We also have Tessa, who is a fastidious little "clean the newf's mouth" dog............I noticed one of our friends Australian kelpies does the same to her Rotty

We've got drool here! And we LOVE it! :icon_stupid: But then again, with 7 kids drool happens too.

I'm not sure how one could ever consider having a Newfoundland if they had any aversion to drool. It is one of the characteristics that make them what they are. Our Rescue ask the question on our adoption applications about drool, and if potential families express that they would be bothered by slobber, we would not place one of our rescues there. There are so many other breeds to choose from who do not have this particular characteristic. I would go that route rather than attempt to locate a non drooling Newfy. :sunflower:

Ha ha ha haaaaa :roflmao: I agree! LOL Why just yesterday I was doing my daily wall flooger wash/wipe and came upon a signature/autograph on one of my framed pictures. I'm not sure which of my Newfs left it but I highly suspect Gabe as he has quite the technique for flinging floogers.

All three of mine drool...even little Paige is being to after drinks and during food prep. It is just a fact of life...like poop is too. I just clean it up and carry on.
