There is a lady Kellyjac who I sent a message to on fB to read your post. She went through this with a Newf several years ago. I hope she will be able to give you some information as her Newf lived some years with liver disease.

I also had a Newf with liver disease in the 1990s but the cause was not diagnosed till we had a autopsy done when he passed away. It was caused by Copper toxicity which is extremely rare in Newfs. Mainly seen in Bedlington terriers. No one could understand why he couldn't metabolism copper.

I do know from the Holisitic Newf Page that a few Newfs have gone RAW after diagnosis and done really well.... I would still see if you can contact Kymethy Schultz on the FB page, she is very helpful and has a lot of knowledge.

Thank you all! I thought of maybe a copper problem found out about if once again on the internet. I wonder too if that is what caused the problem. She is still eating some and drinking water. Much better than 2 days ago! I still have her on steroids, and tissue salts so not sure what if anything is working.

Her name is Kymythy R. Schultz. I found her at Kymythy.com for holistic care and natural nutrition for dogs, cats and their humans. I see her posts on a Holistic Newfoundland Dog FB page a lot.

Add vitamin b complex into diet as along with milk thistle its what they give recovering alcoholics.

White fish is supposed to be good along with potatoes as a liver cleansing diet.

Hugos owner once sent me a diet sheet for Beau but l cant find iit.however there must be some good ones on jean dodds site

Update on Piper. Went to the vet today for her B12 shot. She is having problems standing but this is probably because of her weakened state and the past surgery on her hip. Good New: She is eating like crazy! I am trying to keep her on a low easy digest protein yet a low to no copper. So right now she is eating Chicken, I finally got her to eat Cottage Cheese, egg, rice, sweet potato, green beans. I am also giving her a touch of nutrical for weight gain she is now down to 88 pounds. And a chicken hot dog.
She is still on the tissue salts, and prednisone and milk thistle. I will be switching her off of the pred in the next week and adding SAM E. OH yeah and a touch of coconut oil. She is pooping solid, and drinking water.
I am now watching her for water retention so far slight but not bad.
Thank you all for your prayers and helpful advice! You guys are great!
Please continue as you think of other things or when you think of a prayer or two.

Have you tried Satin Balls for weight gain. There is a sticky with the recipe in the food and diet forum. You can substitute ground turkey for the hamburger if you need to. You can also add or leave out things to fit her diet.

No I haven't I will have to search for the recipe. My husband is a feeder so now since she wasn't eating and now started I have to do something to get him to stop! But we are both so thrilled that she is eating again!

Piper passed over to the Bridge this morning. My heart is broken. Thank you all for the support I so desperately needed. Thank you for your prayers. I know she and others are waiting on the bridge for me.
