Collar Help

I would like a rolled leather collar for Walter, my rough coated Saint.
I had this one for about a year and a half, but the rivets (hidden in the picture) gave way and the collar is shot. The flat buckle part also managed to contribute to some dewlap matting.

My friend has one of these and likes it, but now I have my reservations about the rivets.

I've looked into rolled leather chokes as well, but still riveted. What I suppose I'm looking for is a rolled leather collar of any sort (buckle, snap, or choke) with braided ends for the ring attachments. I trust my braided leather leash.

It's also possible rivets work fine and that I just had a poor quality one since it came from Petco. In that case, I'd love a personal recommendation. I expect a leather collar to last me a good long time, not a year and a half.

Any suggestions?

We don't use rolled leather, but this:
http://www.amazon.com/Rogz-Reflecti...5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1284745465&sr=8-5

Well not in reflective, but that brand and that type & size. Even though it's nylon, it's "softer" than usual as all the edges are soft too, even the buckles. Doesn't wear off the fur around the neck, which is a huge plus for us. Our oldest one is around five years (daily usage), and still going strong. No rust and no significant wear, feels like it only gets better as time goes by :).

What timing! I just purchased a rolled leather convertible collar from a vendor at the Cranberry Cluster show yesterday. It's handmade by Hogan Leather, gorgeous workmanship and has no rivets, it's hand stitched plus it has brass fittings. Lulu's Premier martingale was her 'everyday' collar but the chrome plating on the rings got rusted with her spending most of the summer swimming nearly every day. Here's the webpage link: http://www.hoganleather.com/store/products/all/80_3_4%22_combination_rolled_collar/

Norm has a Hogan Leather 28-inch long (adjusts to 32-inches long), 3/4-inch wide, combination rolled collar in Havana brown... and I love it. It's hard finding a collar big enough for a Saint and Hogan Leather will make a collar as big as you need. Norm's photo is in the gallery on the Hogan Leather website. :)

Norm looks F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S in his collar (actually Norm would look fabulous naked) but he looks so grown up in his Hogan collar.

Norm could wear one of those silly collars with rhinestones and still look great...he's just that handsome.

OO I think Tricia may have picked a winner! Thanks guys! If anyone has other suggestions, please keep posting.
Norm looks gorgeous, if I ever get another Saint, I think I'll go for a smooth coat :)
Here's Walter with his family, in case anyone needed to see the dog the collar might adorn :D

For those that use rolled leather for a choker, I'm curious: does the collar get caught up in the hair at all, or is it pretty good about sliding back down to the correct position when the dog resumes a loose leash position? I made a homemade choke out of climbing rope and find that the ring will often not slide back to where it is supposed to.

What collar? There's a collar on Norm? I don't see anything but his majestic profile!:heart:

Jaxson...I used the choke today on a leash walk with lots of new dogs and hundreds of crazy squirrels...it's smoother than a chain choke...I'm very impressed that it doesn't get "hung up" like a chain can when it gets fouled by hair. Overall, I'm a convert! I'm mostly a positive training afficianado but I like to have some tools in my box of tricks for quick stops in reactive situations.

Wow, Norm is gorgeous and I love that collar!! I'll say it again, Alex, I love how your dogs always touch each other. With my dogs.... I would probably get something like...MOM!!! HE'S TOUCHING ME! Lol-j/k.

Well, I had to tell someone...and figure y'all on this thread will understand...Santa is bringing Cooper and Zuzu the Hogan rolled combination collars for Christmas this year...just placed the order! Zuzu gets black, Cooper, brown. Both 24" (the measurement is at the middle of the collar, I asked the store owner), so Zu will be at the smallest hole and Cooper middle - higher (but 26 would be too big for my sweet boy).

Woohoo! Now I have to wait to give them to them....
