Just want to know how many of you have trees up and how and where and if your dogs like to destroy them!!!!!!!!! Since having dogs have you decided on smaller on a table etc!!!
Im really worried that mines A. Going to be seen as a chew toy. B. Something for them to launch themselves at C. Be terriefied of or D. Urinated upon!!!! (i have images in my head) Noah was fine elast year but was only 14weeks old but this year a whole different ball game with three adolescent dogs.

Any advice would be great!!!!

I put up a small, table-top tree with my favorite ornaments. Never have I had a dog disturb any Christmas trees (large, small fake or real) damage it like Eden and perhaps Anya. The dogs didn't disturb the tree or really show any interest in it while I was home; but, when I got home, it was knocked down and the breakables broken and wooden ones chewed up. So, I would advise putting up a tree without any ornaments and see how the dog does. I did not put the tree back up.

Tradition stands in this household. We always have a regular tree. The precious ornaments are on the upper branches, well above tail height. It's against a window, and they really can't get around it. Even when we had three dogs, still had a tree. I've always had more damage done when my father knocked down the tree one year than from the dogs. ;)

PS there is no coffee table in the house, however...

We bought a pre-lit this year. I put it up without decorations a few weeks ago. They didn't bother it at all so I put the ornaments on day after Thanksgiving. It is in a corner, and they do sniff it once in a while, but that's it. It's when I put the gifts out that I'm worried. May have to wait until Christmas eve after they are asleep to do that.

We have two trees. One is in the sitting room, which is dog-accessible. That one has mostly non-breakable ornaments on it, or the breakable ones are placed high up out of tail reach. We also wire the tree to the wall in three places, just in case!! Our cats like to sleep underneath them which means every so often you can hear me howling "Nonononononononono Pooka leave that cat alone get out of there nononononono be careful be careful be careful!"

The "nice" tree is in the stairhall which is gated off from the dogs. That's also where the presents go.

Yes our tree is wired to a special hook we have in our ceiling (it cannot topple this way). We have had it like this since about 1990, when by coincidence we had our first young Newf . And also the more fragile ornaments are at the top. So far touch wood, no major disasters...................

I am putting the tree in the front bedroom this year so it can be placed in the window and I am able to close the door from Mr. Oh-oh

I had a tree last year, not wired to the wall, all decorations (breakable or not) spread evenly over the entire tree. It was in the main living room and Charlie has access to the entire house when I am away. I had no issues. Charlie was told the tree was not to be touched, and he listened.

We have a prelit tree and it is in the den STILL IN THE BOX. I collect glass icicles (and have for years) and I'm scared to put it up. Palin isn't destructive by any means but there's some little inner voice telling me to WATCH OUT.
Bad thing is I host a Christmas Social every year and it's next Saturday and I'm not even close to having the house decorated..I've been too busy playing with the little puppers to even care.

Tree will go up in one of the front rooms where the dogs aren't allowed to go. We use babygates to keep them out of that area.

We haven't had a tree since we got Beau. We don't think he'd bother it, we are just afraid when the two of them get running and playing (we shooo them out asap) they will knock it over. There is no way to attach the top of it to the ceiling or we'd try that.

We have had the same tree for the last 25 years. It went through a collie, a St. Bernad & Bär [newf]. My husband build a 10 inch fence when we first got our Collie [almost 20 years ago]. It sits about 2 feet from tree all the way around. That keeps the tail from brushing in to the tree. Never had a problem. Bär goes over to the tree on ocaison, sniffs around, but that is all. He is a big snoop though. Likes to check out what presents are under the tree. We also have a lot of decorations sitting around at newf height. On the coffee table I have a handmade [hubby made it] Santa with sleigh & all 9 reindeer. It has never been touched. I think it is the same as when you have kids. You teach them.

Mine are included in Christmas Activities. For space (mainly) and safety purposes we have a table top tree, but the Girls and Ricky have their own stockings, and the Manger is a Newfie Navitiy Scene (really cool). They have sniffed the tree but since it's nothing to eat they pretty much leave it alone (fingers crossed).

We have a separate Living Room and Family Room/Kitchen. The tree is in the Living Room where the dogs never go.

In the past, however, we always had two. One in the LR and one in the FR. And I always had at least two dogs and two cats.

The cats were the problem. They'd climb it (so it would be tied with fishing line to a hook in the wall to keep it from falling over...which it did...once. I learn fast. LOL)

Dog's tails can be an issue too.

I have a friend who put a picket fence around hers, with a picket gate...and made it look like a tree in a garden, in the house. VERY cute! And it kept the dogs out! LOL

my hubby's tree is up.... in previous years we have had tail problems with Hannah... her tail is so strong it could drive nails... the dogs pretty much leave the tree alone. we have no skirt and nothing under the tree...

they are also ignoring my menorah.

we put ours in a corner in the dining room (we have a lounge diner), so we can see it. It's fully decorated but none of the dogs are allowed in there while we are out or at night.

To Miss Palin
Just dress her up with a little tinsel and everyone would forgive lack of decorations after looking into her lovely eyes.

So far so good here at this house. Tsunami has left the tree alone for the most part. His tail has knocked it a few times and he has gently picked off some ornaments he has wanted to take a closer look at. :whistling:... but hasn't taken a running leap at the thing yet ..........between the kids and the curious puppy, the ornaments may or may not make it to Christmas.
