I hoped never to have to post anything in this section...
Orca has cherry eye. It has gone away and recurred several times but hasn't gone away in his left eye and keeps coming back in his right. In addition, there seemed to be green discharge coming from both eyes when he woke up yesterday. I've talked to our breeder and she is talking to her vet and I've done internet research and know we might be looking at surgery. It sucks because his complementary insurance with AKC lapsed on the 18th and the "permanent" cherry eye occurred about a week later- We never got around to signing up with Healthy Paws.
I understand about the "pocket" technique of tacking it in, and we'll be taking him to the vet as soon as we hear back from our breeder about her recommendations, but for those of you in the NJ area, do you have any recommendations of practices that perform this procedure well, have lots of experience with it, or even eye specialists offices? The internet is getting me nowhere, even though Ian and I have spent several late night searching, trading info, and trying to find better options that removal and tacking.
Orca will be 23 weeks tomorrow. He's just a baby. He doesn't seem to notice, but I am really freaking out that something terrible will happen to his vision, or he won't wake up from anesthesia or he'll end up having to have the surgery over and over. I just need some reassurance here.
